Occupy’s Plan To Shut Down Golden Gate Bridge Cancelled

(Photo: Darwin Bell)

Er, never mind. Occupy’s plan to shut down the Golden Gate Bridge on May 1st has been cancelled. Occupy will instead focus on ferry service. Why? Well, part of it could be that the Golden Gate Bridge District just agreed to pay a reported $2 million to “380 workers represented by 14 unions who have been out of contract since July 2011 over a dispute about medical insurance costs passed on to workers,” reports Susie Cagle for SF Appeal.

“We appreciate the tremendous support we’ve received from the public, our brothers and sisters in labor, San Francisco commuters, and allies like Jobs with Justice, Pride at Work, and Occupy San Francisco,” said Alex Tonisson, Organizer and Co-Chair of the Golden Gate Bridge Labor Coalition, in a statement released on Friday. “Bridge, bus, and ferry workers have done everything we can at the bargaining table to reach a fair contract. As we prepare to take the next step in the fight for quality affordable healthcare for workers, families, and retirees, we ask supporters to stand with us at strike picket lines on May Day, and to keep the bridge open.”

Some occupiers aren’t thrilled about the decision to cancel Tuesday’s plan due to seemingly political reasons. Former San Francisco mayoral candidate John Rinaldi (AKA Chicken John) penned the following on the Occupy the Bridge wall after the announcement:

Well you just lost me. You will find as you gain wisdom through failure that when you adhere to something, you lose at least 50% of your audience. The idea of “Occupy” was that it was a blanket idea, that we were ALL the 99%. Now, you include politics that show the idea is compromised. Unions are a blight on our great nation, and I detest them and so do many people I know. We see them as bullying and a tool for a small percentage of people who “have theirs”. You will not be seeing me or any of us in your mayday parade. I wish you the best of luck though, and hope that we can all live in a world free from banks and unions in the future.

And with that, the plan to temporarily shutter the bridge won’t happen. Probably not. However, there is talk of “autonomous action” that might cause a ruckus at the Golden Gate Bridge on May Day. Buses will still leave from 19th and Telegraph in Oakland and San Francisco City Hall at 6 a.m. tomorrow to the picket sites.

May Day should prove an eventful one for Occupy members and supporters. Occupy SF plans to hold a street fair at Montgomery and Market streets tomorrow afternoon. And Occupy Oakland will hold rallies throughout the city, as well as a noontime rally at Oakland City Hall.

Scandal in the Vatican

At the beginning of the year documents began to find their way into the hands of the media. These confidential documents had been leaked from the Vatican. The documents give insight into the hidden world at the heart of the Vatican. The Vatileaks documents show bitter in fighting between the rival political factions within the Catholic Church, financial corruption, and paint a picture of the Pope as weak and ineffectual.

The Pope’s butler, Paolo Gabriele, has now been arrested, after hundreds of personal letters from the Pope were found in his apartment. Though many believe he has been made a scapegoat, and the people truly behind the leaked documents are still operating within the Vatican.

Also, in the last month the official exorcist to the Pope, Father Gabriele Amorth, has said he know’s what happened to a teenage girl who was abducted in 1983. Emanuela Orlandi, was 15 when see disappeared off the streets of Rome. And now Father Gabriele has said she was kidnapped by the Vatican police to be used in sex-parties.

Last year God told Prophet TV to go to Rome, after He showed a vision of the dragon over the Vatican. When God sends in His prophet to a region, that which is hidden is exposed.

Why Americans Should Hope that Nicolas Sarkozy Gets Re-Elected

If Sarkozy were to loose the Presidential elections on May 6th, which looks highly likely, should we care?

Sarkozy has been more pro-American than your average French President. He played a vital role in European diplomacy with Germany, helping broker many key pieces of legislation, often at a personal political cost domestically.

Sarkozy has also brought France back into the NATO fold, and stopped French opposition to US policy in the Middle East. Sarkozy also lead the international community in the fight against the Gaddafi regime.

So if Sarkozy looses the election it is likely France will distance herself from Germany’s policy on Europe, and it is likely France will again oppose US policy in the Middle East. And in these important days both measures could have serious implications to America.

Following a Freedom if Information lawsuit it has been revealed that there are at least 63 active drone sites around the US.

Drones are unmanned planes, these range from small aircraft, like the Draganflyer X8, which can carry a payload of only 2.2 lb, and are used by police patrol borders and by environmental agencies to monitor for wild fires.

However some of the drones are much bigger, like the MQ-9 Reaper, which is used by the military to kill terrorists overseas.

It has been revealed that 20 states have launch locations.

Drones are deployed from military installations, enforcement agencies, as well as universities.

However, it is unknown the exact number of these drones operating or the full extent of drone activities  in America’s skies.

USD: Dalai Lama

On April 18, 2012, the University of San Diego welcomed His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as he made his inaugural visit to San Diego as part of the “Compassion Without Borders” tour.

The Dalai Lama gave a talk titled “Cultivating Peace and Justice” at the Jenny Craig Pavilion at 1:30 p.m. His talk explored alternatives to violence and the shared core human values that can lead the way to peace, justice and happiness. He also discussed ways in which people of all religions, and secularists as well, share values that can bring people together to contribute to peace and justice. His message of peace crosses all borders.

University of San Diego, along with San Diego State University and UC San Diego were honored to host the Dalai Lama’s first visit to America’s finest city. Working under the leadership of Lama Tenzin Dhonden, Personal Peace Emissary to the Dalai Lama, the two-day symposium provided a thought-provoking forum, inspired new discoveries, and expanded our understanding of humanity. The Dalai Lama shared his views on upholding ethics, practicing forgiveness and tolerance, and coping with the challenges found in today’s society.

Professor: Child pornography could be beneficial to society

Child porn could benefit society as “Potential sex offenders use child pornography as a substitute for sex against children.” Professor Milton Diamond with University of Hawaii and a ‘distinguished lecturer’ at the IASHS (Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality) in San Francisco.

Psychology is starting to accept that pedophilia is a sexual orientation like homosexuality and heterosexuality.  When this movement and the movement of children’s rights are combined the understanding of the professors mindset becomes clear.

The children’s rights movement is the idea of allowing children at very young ages make their own choice about their lifestyle and healthcare.

On the merging of pedophilia and child pornography, Linda Harvey of Mission America… “There have been blips on this in the United States for the last decade…We will see this trend accelerate as homosexual, transgender and ‘children’s rights’ intersect.”

Further understanding is obtained by looking at the IASHS.  The IASHS actively promoted repealing a ban on homosexuals serving in the military.

The IASHS identifies “basic sexual rights” which include:

  • “the right to engage in sexual acts or activities of any kind whatsoever, providing they do not involve nonconsensual acts, violence, constraint, coercion or fraud.”
  • “be free of persecution, condemnation, discrimination, or societal intervention in private sexual behavior” and “the freedom of any sexual thought, fantasy or desire.”
  • “the freedom of any sexual thought, fantasy or desire.”
  • None should be “disadvantaged because of their age.”

The problem with this is “What is the definition of consent… When a person says they agree to something that implies consent and the trend is to expand that definition to children in sexual matters.” This opens the door for exploitation by pedophiles, according to Linda Harvey.

”Gay rights groups are attempting to open up sexuality to children at younger ages.  There are also gay community centers around the country that accept children as young as 10 or 11 without parental consent.”
