Ron Paul: US interest rates are going negative, and the Fed can’t stop it

Ron Paul is warning negative interest rates will crush the global economy.

The former Republican congressman from Texas believes the U.S. won’t be the exception.

“We will join the rest of them and go to total negative rates in hopes that that will be the solution,” he told CNBC’s “Futures Now” on Thursday. “We’ve never had as many currencies in negative interest rates. $17 trillion worth of bonds [are] in negative interest rates. It’s never existed before. And, that’s a bubble. So, we’re in the biggest bond bubble in history, and it’s going to burst.”

Will Trump Hold His Nerve With China Over Huawei?

Trump’s policy on dealing with  Xi Jinping ’s China has seen Chinese tech firms placed on an “entry list”. This has stopped US firms doing business with these Chinese firms, and thus hampering their ability to advance Chinese development of AI and machine learning.

However, Trump is keen to strike a trade deal before the next election. This could see him remove Huawei from the entry list, as part of a future deal. This could prove disastrous to the US economy long term.

The next fight is over who controls 5G technology. If Trump holds his nerve US companies have the technology to control the market. However is Huawei accesses US technology they could control the market.

Period Tracking Apps Sharing a Ton of Data with Facebook

Many women use various period tracking apps to help them  monster their monthly cycles. These apps record  highly intimate information about these women, not merely when their period is due, but information about their sex lives, whether or not they want to have a baby, their moods, if they have unprotected sex, and about their general health.

Many of these apps  integrate Facebook’s Software Developer Kit (SDK) which allows Facebook to harvest this data and then pass it on to their extensive advertising network and third party analytics network.

US to collect social media profiles from immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees

The process of getting refugee status, a green card, and citizenship will become way more intrusive.
The Department of Homeland Security plans to expand its social media profile collection program from US visa applicants to also include data from immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees.

The DHS published a notice on the federal registry describing its future data collection practice this week.

The agency plans to ask immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees to provide usernames — without passwords — for 19 social networking sites:

Ask.fm (Q&A site)
Douban (China-based social network)
Facebook (social network)
Flickr (image hosting portal)
Instagram (image sharing social network)
LinkedIn (job seeking portal)
MySpace (social network)
Pinterest (image saving/categorization service)
QZone (QQ) (China-based social network, IM app)
Reddit (discussion board)
Sina Weibo (China-based microblogging service)
Tencent Weibo (China-based microblogging service)
Tumblr (blogging platform)
Twitter (microblogging service)
Twoo (Belgium-based social network)
Vine (video sharing site)
VKontakte (VK) (Russia-based social network)
Youke (China-based video sharing portal)
YouTube (video sharing portal)
These are the same social media profiles that the DHS had been collecting through the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency from US visa applications — people who applied for entry in the US from a country where a visa card is required.

The DHS has been collecting social media profile information from visa applicants since December 2016. Initially, the social media profile fields were optional, but the DHS made themobligatory for all visa applications in May, this year. See a full timeline here.

First day Iceman and Golden Girl into Sunset Beach Shelter Island… Front page Drudge..

CNN’s Chris Cuomo erupted at a man in public who apparently called him “Fredo,” in a wild moment caught on video that went viral Monday night.

The encounter between Cuomo and the man happened at a Shelter Island bar — that appears to be Sunset Beach — on Sunday. The video, surreptitiously filmed by the man Cuomo was shouting at, was uploaded to Twitter by a user who said he was sent the clip.

“Punk-ass bitches from the right call me Fredo,” Cuomo told the man, who claimed he thought the CNN anchor was named Fredo. “My name is Chris Cuomo. I’m an anchor on CNN. Fredo is from The Godfather.”

“They use it as an Italian aspersion. Any of you Italian?” Cuomo continued. “It’s an insult to your fucking people. It’s like the N-word for us.”

They went back and forth, and at one point Cuomo said, “I’ll fucking ruin your shit. I’ll fucking throw you down these stairs like a fucking punk.”

A CNN spokesperson told Mediaite in a statement, “Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup. We completely support him.”

Cuomo is receiving support from outside CNN as well. His 9 p.m. rival at Fox News, Sean Hannity, tweeted “good for [Cuomo]” in response to the video. “He’s out with his 9 year old daughter, and his wife, and this guy is being a jackass in front of his family,” Hannity wrote. “Imho Chris Cuomo has zero to apologize for. He deserves the apology.”

Cuomo is off air this week, but he will return on Monday. CNN told Mediaite his vacation was pre-planned.
