U.S. Military Plans to Analyse 350 Billion Social Media Posts

The U.S. military plan to analyse 350 billion public social media posts in their continued effort to study how popular movements evolve. The study which will look at posts, comments, metadata, and location identifiers of around 200 million people over a 100 countries will be the most ambitious of its kind.

The study will be conducted out of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and seeks to discover what mobilises people.

William A. Carter, deputy director for tech policy at the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington, said the study is important to help defend against adversaries who seek to undermine democracy and create divisions in western society: “We need to better understand how narratives are shaped and communities are formed online to defend ourselves against these campaigns,” he said.

LAPD OFFICER HUNTED IN BIG BEAR, CA; SUSPECT IN 3 MURDERS

View Dorner Timeline in a larger map

The man hunt continues for ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner in Big Bear, CA today. He has been accused of three murders including that of a police officer in Riverside, CA and an engaged couple in Irvine, CA.

Last Sunday night, Monica Quan, an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton, and her fiance, Keith Lawrence, were found in the parking garage of an upscale condominium in Irvine shot to death. On
Monday morning, Christopher Joedan Dorner posted a manifesto on his Facebook page stating that he had murdered the couple. It also included at least 40 other people he threatened violence against. In San Diego, “police equipment” was found in a dumpster and was believed to be his.

Tuesday, military bases were put on alert when it was revealed that Dorner had used his military identification to check into a hotel on the San Diego Naval base days before. Dorner was considered a “person of interest as of Wednesday in the murders of the couple in Irvine. That night around 10:30, he tried to steal a boat from an 81 year old man in Southwestern Yacht Club, Point Loma with speculation he was going to flee to Mexico. The boat became inoperable when a rope became tangled around the propeller.

Early Thursday morning, an officer in Corona was grazed in the head with a bullet while protecting a family mentioned in the manifesto. A short time later, two Riverside offers were shot while on their regular patrol, one fatally. About the same time, Dorner’s badge and briefcase were found near Lindbergh Field in San Diego. The search was then expanded to include the entire state of California as well as Nevada.

By Thursday evening, a burned out truck that was found about 8:30 am in Big Bear, CA was identified as belonging to Dorner. A full scale search for the suspect was initiated including cars, houses and the forest areas surrounding the area. The search continued throughout the snow on Friday and resumed again today. The search will continue until either Dorner is found or officials are given a reason to stop, possibly a lead that takes them elsewhere.

Dorner’s mother’s house in La Palma, CA as well as his house in Las Vegas, NV have been searched in hopes that some other leads may be revealed.

October 11th Debates – Medical Issues Take Center Stage

On October 11th, while Vice President Biden and Vice Presidential Candidate Ryan are preparing to debate serious US issues, in Kentucky, another statesman – the Dalai Lama from Tibet, will be visiting neighboring state Virginia at the joint invitation of The Foundation for American Heritage Voices (their Tibetan American Cultural Division), the Tibetan Association of Charlottesville, the UMA Institute for Tibetan Studies, and the City of Charlottesville.

The Dalai Lama will be speaking on “Compassionate Care in 21st Century Medicine” and “Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World.” His choice of topics are very poignant considering the current debates around Obamacare.

The city of Charlottesville is also headquarters to the National Ground Intelligence Center (the security command for the US Army), GE Intelligent Platforms (including Aerospace, Defense/Military, and Communication Systems), and SNL Financial LC (a provider of breaking news, financial data and expert analysis on business sectors critical to the global economy).

While there, Charlottesville’s Mayor will be presenting the Dalai Lama with the distinguished Key to the City, giving him freedom of the city status.

Armada of British naval power massing in the Gulf as Israel prepares an Iran strike – Telegraph.

An armada of battleships, aircraft carriers, minesweepers and submarines are gathering in the Gulf. The vessels are from 25 nations and are meeting at the Strait of Hormuz.

This show of force comes as the likelihood of an Israeli strike againt Iran increases. Military experts believe Iran would respond to any strike by attempting to close the vitally important trade route of the Strait of Hormuz – where 18 million barrels of oil pass through the narrow strait everyday.

Ex union president in Occupy event: Goal is to ‘overthrow the capitalist system and build communism’

Mike Golash, who was a president with the Amalgamated Transit Union local 689 chapter, and is now an organiser for the “Occupy” movement describes the agenda…

“… is a revolutionary communist organization… It’s objective is to make revolution in the United States, overthrow the capitalist system and build communism.”

“An organization has to be built which can bring down capitalism..”

“The capitalists — they have their organizations: the FBI, the CIA, the secret police, the military, the army, etc., etc. They have organizations to maintain their power. It’s foolish to think that without a disciplined organization made up not of a few people but of millions and millions of people, [we] can bring down capitalism.”

This event by Occupy D.C. was located in the Luther Place Church, downtown Washington, D.C.

Military drone mistaken for ‘UFO’ along DC highways

WASHINGTON – A saucer-shaped object on a very wide flatbed truck had some people wondering if the government was moving a UFO in or near Washington, D.C., Wednesday night. The truck came south on I-270, then took the inner loop of the Capital Beltway from Montgomery County into Prince George’s County. When motorists snapped photos of the strange object and posted them on Twitter, some people became concerned enough to call local police. One man called 911 in Prince George’s County because, he said, he was concerned about a relative who lived along the route. LISTEN: 9-1-1 call reporting “UFO” because it’s trending Twitter! Asked by a befuddled dispatcher what the object looked like, the caller replied hesitantly, “…ah… a UFO. I mean, I don’t really know. I don’t see too many UFO’s on a regular basis.” LINK: Photo gallery of “UFO” on DC Beltway Well, it turns out the mysterious object on the truck cruising around the Beltway is capable of flight. It’s an experimental, unmanned aircraft called an X-47B, according to Northrop Grumman spokesman Brooks McKinney. The company spokesman said the saucer-like shape of the aircraft is a deliberate effort to make it harder to detect. “[It’s] a shape that minimizes its refection of potential … enemy radar signals,” said McKinney, who also pointed out that the aircraft has no tail. The spacy-looking aircraft was being delivered to Patuxent Naval Air Station for testing. The manufacturer hopes that someday the government will purchase many of the drones so they can be stationed aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. McKinney said the remotely-piloted aircraft can be used for surveillance or can be rigged to carry weapons. Two of the experimental aircraft are now in Maryland. Why not fly the drones from their previous base in California? McKinney said the FAA is not currently keen on unmanned transcontinental flights. You May Also Like….
