With only three days until the election it is too close to call. Most polls have President Obama and Mitt Romney neck-and-neck. The last time an election was this close was in 2000 when George W Bush beat Al Gore. Back in 2000, like now, both men were polling at 47% each. In 2000 Al Gore won the popular vote, but lost the electoral collage – Bush won Ohio! In 2000, there were legal challenges and recounts. Some think this year will be as close as 2000.
The figures behind this years election point to a deeply divided nation. Unlike many Western democracies, where elections are marked by candidates who are remarkably similar, Obama and Romney have very different policies. The two men seek to take the nation down very different paths.
After such a long and bitter campaign, let us hope the winner will be able to unite the nation after Tuesday’s election.
In this most important of election years it could not be closer. Recent polls have Republican Mitt Romney slightly ahead, but when you break down the polls state by state the election could be either man’s.
Yet again Ohio is thought to be the key, with it’s 18 electoral votes this is the state that could swing the election. Historically, no Republican has ever been elected to the White House without securing Ohio.
This week, former Democratic President Bill Clinton, while speaking at a ceremony dedicating the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park in New York City, claimed that Hillary Clinton “was known to commune” with Eleanor Roosevelt.
Bill Clinton also indicated that the spirit “Eleanor Roosevelt” had spoken with Hillary Clinton to tell him a message, just this week.
This is not a new revelation. Bob Woodward in 1996, in his book “The Choice”, revealed that Hillary regularly participated in imaginary discussions with Eleanor Roosevelt as well as Mahatma Gandhi, as a therapeutic exercise.
President Obama and Republican hopeful Mitt Romney are preparing for the final of the Presidential election debate in Florida. This final debate will take place on Monday 22nd, October. No Presidential election is unimportant, but this year is arguably the most important election we have had for many years. Obama and Romney have very different ideological stand points, and America is clearly facing many challenges.
After the first two debates Romney has made gains in the polls and is now ahead of the President in some polls, with others have the result tied.
The third debate will focus mainly on foreign policy. Libya was a major clashing point for the second debate. President Obama is in Camp David preparing of the debate, and Romney is preparing in Florida.
Ohio is regarded as the most important of all the swing states at election time. This is not only due to demographics but also because Ohio has 18 electoral votes. History shows no republican has ever been elected President without winning Ohio- it decided the election for George W Bush in 2004, and in 2000. And this year is no exception.
The United Nations (UN) attempt to grab money and further power is not new. “Innovative methods of financing” is the latest term they are using to describe their actions.
Examples: A 1% worldwide billionaires tax, a currency trading tax, a tax on all financial dealings (stock, bond and derivative trading), a carbon emissions tax or an airline ticket tax.
These ideas are supported at UN meetings. The idea is that the UN would be in charge of these funds and “redistribute” the funds to poorer countries.
Also supporting these measures is Jeffrey Sachs.
Sachs is a vocal Occupy Wall Street supporter and “climate change” fighter.
Sachs also happens to be the leader of the Earth Institute, from Columbia University and a UN Assistant Secretary General. Part of his (UN) duties are to work with UN agencies and “multilateral financing institutions and other international organizations” to (in large part) fight climate change. To do so he was appointed head of a new lobbying group named the Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
This week Sachs was noted to have been promoting a U.S. carbon tax to fight “climate change” by calling on President Obama. He has also been quoted “I’m happy to have the future pay for a lot of this. It doesn’t have to be current financed.” by Bloomberg News.
Madonna asked everyone in the audience of her Washington, DC performance Monday night to vote for President Obama because he is a “black Muslim.””Y’all better vote for fking Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right?” the shouted from stage while sipping from a bottle of water with a straw. “”We have a black Muslim in the White House! Now that’s some amazing st.” Madonna, 54, also stripped down to her bra to reveal “Obama” stenciled in big letters on her back, before promising or warning?: “When Obama is in the White House for a second term Ill take it all off.” President Obama is not a Muslim. Or is He?
The controversial British historian Niall Ferguson has used a cover piece in Newsweek magazine to argue that it is time Obama “hit the road”. In the piece Ferguson compares Obama’s pre-election promises with his record as President and then argues why he believes it is time for a new President.
The economic historian and Fellow of Harvard University, has spoken extensively about the need for economic reforms and the unsustainability of western debt. Ferguson writes:
“Welcome to Obama’s America: nearly half the population is not represented on a taxable return—almost exactly the same proportion that lives in a household where at least one member receives some type of government benefit,” Ferguson writes. “We are becoming the 50–50 nation—half of us paying the taxes, the other half receiving the benefits.”
Recently Ferguson raised eyebrows by claiming if young America knew what was good for them they would all join the tea-party.
Ferguson uses the lessons of economic history, to inform his political analysis of current events. He has been an advisor to politicians in America as well as in the UK. He teaches on the rise and fall of civilisations throughout history, and although he has not written America off, he understands that she is in a perilous place, and her place as the leader of the free world should not be taken for granted – America could fall, like many great nations before her.
“… people have a new attitude toward America. … We see it everywhere we go,” President Obama, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno Nevada.
Under Obama People see things different in this country. The attitude is different. Or, the mindset is different.

This may signal a change in what now looks like a civil war.
According to US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta the bloodshed is “rapidly spinning out of control” in Syria.
The officials killed (as reported by state run television) include: General Dawoud Rajha, General Assef Shawkat and General Hassan Turkmani.

While his girlfriend looked on, three suspected Islamic militants stabbed a university student to death.
This murder is fueling suspicions that various groups or individuals have been emboldened to apply strict Islamic laws and standards since the election of the new Islamist President, Mohammed Mursi.
This group who killed the university student, had confronted them and indicated that they shouldn’t be together if they were not married and that they must immediately go their separate ways.
