Chinese President Xi Jinping has signed a directive allowing for “non-war” uses of the military – raising concerns it could pave the way for an invasion of Taiwan that would be labelled a “special military operation” instead of a war, just as Russia has done in Ukraine.

On the same day Russia invaded Ukraine, Taiwan have had to scramble their air force to warn Chinese planes entering their air defence zone.

Taiwan has said that 38 Chinese jets have entered their defense zone in the last two days. The Taiwanese government also pointed out some of those jets had nuclear capabilities.
The incursion is the biggest of its kind by Beijing to date. China has been doing such missions into Taiwan airspace for a year. The Chinese government sees Taiwan as a break away state, however the people of Taiwan see themselves as a free sovereign democratic nation.
“China has been wantonly engaged in military aggression, damaging regional peace,” Taiwan Premier Su Tseng-chang told reporters on Saturday.
