To Ward Off Evil Spirits, Man Slathers Vegetable Oil On Headstones

Apparently, spirits have been frequenting the Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward, a suburb of San Francisco.

Deepak Sandhar covered approximately 150 headstones with soybean oil because they “were evil”.  Including the oil and according to the Oakland Tribune “Singh also left small plastic figures, pieces of string and ribbons at several grave sites and was seen by grounds keepers moving flowers between headstones.”

Singh was arrested and placed in the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin California.

  1. Interesting, I’ve seen this on a vacation in the streets of Delhi, India. Warding off evil spirits is a very common thing there, but seems like everyone has a different way of doing it.
Not sure if any or all of these systems work, but I am of the impression that all paths don’t lead to the same God/result! If it did, then India’s worship of a million dieties would have made it a paradise by now.
