According to the Storm Surge Exceedance Map on the National Hurricane Center’s web site, the area of Boston, MA and vicinity may get the highest water surge from Sandy. According to the map, the waves could exceed 29 feet high in some parts of the area. The possibility of a storm surge may extend from the northern North Carolina up through southern Maine.

  1. With all the talk of New York, I was really surprised to see the pink shading all around the Boston area. i hope this changes…
In the meantime, MIT has come up with a great way to spend their time since the campus if closed. The students and faculty have come up with a website called Hurricane Hackers. This site has a place for projects related to the hurricane to be worked on collaboratively including one for sandbag placement to minimize water damage, sign ups for volunteering, and planning benefits to help out after Sandy is gone. I wonder if the Dalai Lama’s recent talk there on “Global Systems 2.0” covered anything like this?

  2. Not sure if the Dalai Lama’s talk had anything to do with what MIT is doing now, but I have noticed a bit of a pattern about things that happen when he leaves. Did you notice that just beyond the entire coastal region where the Dalia Lama traveled is where the surge is happening? For that matter, it is tracked to go inland where he was as well. There was also a freak earthquake up in the Vermont/Maine area just after he was there on this last trip as well. Take a look at this article and map.
