Intense Smoke Fills NYC From Canadian Wildfires

From Maryland to the Canadian capital, a monstrous cloud of smoke spewed by Quebec’s wildfires has forced children to stay indoors, grounded flights in New York City and left millions of residents at risk of breathing unhealthy air.

More than 75 million people in the eastern US are under air quality alerts Wednesday due to the smoke, which made iconic skylines disappear behind wafting orange fumes.

Pharmaceutical Giant Merck Sues U.S. Government Over Inflation Reduction Act

Merck & Co. sued the U.S. government Tuesday, seeking an injunction of the drug price negotiation program contained in the Inflation Reduction Act.

This is the first attempt by a drugmaker to challenge the law, which the pharmaceutical industry says will result in a loss of profits that will force them to pull back on developing groundbreaking new treatments. The Biden administration’s drug pricing reform aims to save $25 billion annually by 2031 through price negotiations for Medicare.

ICE Acting Director And Border Patrol Chief Retiring After Debacle At Border

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Deputy Director Tae D. Johnson will be retiring from federal law enforcement duties at the end of the month, after over 30 years of serving the country.

Johnson’s announcement comes less than a week after U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz announced he, too, had decided to retire.

Federal Appeals Courts Blocks Biden Admin From Releasing Migrants Into U.S. Via “Parole Gateway”

A three-judge federal appeals court in Georgia has rejected an administration request for permission to keep releasing illegal migrants into Americans’ society via the parole pathway.

The rejection is a win for Florida’s Attorney General — Ashley Moody — because it narrows the parole gateway that President Joe Biden’s pro-migration border chief is using to let poor economic migrants compete against Americans for jobs, housing, and school attention.
