Pentagon orders commanders to prioritize climate change in all military actions

By Rowan Scarborough – The Washington Times – Sunday, February 7, 2016

The Pentagon is ordering the top brass to incorporate climate change into virtually everything they do, from testing weapons to training troops to war planning to joint exercises with allies.

A new directive’s theme: The U.S. Armed Forces must show “resilience” and beat back the threat based on “actionable science.”

The Pentagon defines resilience to climate change as: “Ability to anticipate, prepare for, and adapt to changing conditions and withstand, respond to, and recover rapidly from disruptions.”

To four-star generals and admirals, among them the regional combatant commanders who plan and fight the nation’s wars, the directive tells them: “Incorporate climate change impacts into plans and operations and integrate DoD guidance and analysis in Combatant Command planning to address climate change-related risks and opportunities across the full range of military operations, including steady-state campaign planning and operations and contingency planning.”

The directive, “Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience,” is in line with President Obama’s view that global warming is the country’s foremost national security threat, or close to it. Mr. Obama says there is no debate on the existence of man-made global warming and its ensuing climate change. Supporters of this viewpoint label as “deniers” any scientists who disagree.

OBAMA IN A DELEMA SO AS TO PROTECT HILORY PRESIDENTIAL RUN, DROPS FUTHER PUNISHMENT FOR GENERAL PETRAEUS- FOLKS YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUF UP- POLITICS MODE IN FULL OPERATION- TRUTH, SECURITY, JUSTICE DOSN’T STAND A CHANCE…

January 30, 2016

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has decided not to take any further action against David Petraeus, a former U.S. military commander and CIA director who pleaded guilty to mishandling classified information, according to a letter seen by Reuters.

The short letter was sent by Stephen Hedger, the assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs, and the decision is in line with an Army review.

It was addressed to Senate Armed Service Committee Chairman Senator John McCain and Senator Jack Reed, who had recently asked Carter not to take further action.

The Pentagon could have potentially sought to further reprimand Petraeus under military law.

In April, the retired four-star general was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine but was spared prison time after pleading guilty to mishandling classified information.

Petraeus, a counter-insurgency expert with a Princeton University doctorate, served stints as the top U.S. commander in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and was once considered a possible vice presidential or presidential candidate.

He resigned from the CIA in 2012 after it was revealed that he was having an affair with his biographer, Army Reserve officer Paula Broadwell.

The Pentagon declined to comment.

Swedish govt in “panic” after ISIS letters give 3 days to convert to Islam or be decapitated

DECEMBER 14, 2015 8:33 PM BY RAYMOND ABRAHAM

“Swedish government is in a state of panic after dozens of its citizens received threatening letters signed by ISIS and offering them three choices, either conversion to Islam, payment of jizya, or decapitation.”

The letters warned their recipients that they had three days to decide.

Written in the Swedish language, the letters appeared yesterday on dozens of homes in different cities at the same time. Police are reportedly taking the threat “very seriously.” Among other regions, letters appeared in the cities of Ronneba, Sigtuna, Vstroes and the capital Stockholm.

Along with threatening those who refuse to convert to Islam or pay the jizya with death, some letters also threatened their recipients with “the bombing of theirs roofs above their heads.” The letters further warned that the police will not save recipients of the letters and that “death would extend to all.” Click here for image of one of the letters and an English translation.

COP21: 100 people held in Paris amid climate protest violence

About 100 people have been detained after a major protest in Paris seeking a global climate deal turned violent, Paris’s police chief said…

…The state of emergency was declared after the recent extremist attacks that resulted in the deaths of 130 people in the French capital.

Mr Cadot said on Sunday about 100 people found to have projectiles or other suspicious objects were detained.

Police fired numerous rounds of tear gas on protesters near the Place de la Republique to disperse them.

The protesters were gathering ahead of critical global warming talks outside Paris.

Earlier about two hundred protesters, some wearing masks, fought with police on a street leading to the Place de la Republique square – a gathering place for Parisians since the terror attacks in the capital on November 13th…

…Demonstrators carried banners calling for the defence of the world’s climate, and democracy.
A march planned for Sunday in the city ahead of the UN climate change summit taking place at Le Bourget outside the capital was banned by police under the state of emergency imposed after the November 13th attacks.

Using the state of emergency rules, police had previously put 24 green activists under house arrest, saying they were suspected of planning violent protests against the summit.

Obama administration bans some military-style assault gear from local police departments

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Obama administration announced Monday it will ban federal transfers of certain types of military-style gear to local police departments, as the president seeks to respond to a spate of incidents that has frayed trust in communities across the country….

…”We’ve seen how militarized gear sometimes gives people a feeling like they are an occupying force as opposed to a part of the community there to protect them,” Obama said during remarks in Camden, N.J. “Some equipment made for the battlefield is not appropriate for local police departments.”

The nation’s largest police union denounced the president’s move, saying he has overstated the problem….

…The ban on items will take effect immediately, White House officials said, while the restrictions on other gear will be phased in so that local law enforcement agencies can be briefed about the new requirements…

Senior Obama officials have warned of challenges in screening refugees from Syria

The Obama administration is fighting a growing national backlash against accepting Syrian refugees, saying the government’s exhaustive screening process and security checks for new arrivals mean they can be safely brought to American soil.

Several high-level administration officials have warned in recent months just how challenging this can be. While they say U.S. security measures are much better than in the past, vetting Syrian refugees poses a quandary: How do you screen people from a war-torn country that has few criminal and terrorist databases to check?

Governors rush to slam door on Syrian refugees

Governors across the country are scrambling to close off their states to resettled Syrian refugees in the wake of the deadly terror attacks in Paris that are linked to Islamic State extremists.

The list of states climbed quickly to 23 by Monday evening, after President Obama said that the U.S. would continue to accept refugees and denounced efforts to stop those fleeing violence from coming to the United States as “shameful.”

Governors of Illinois, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maine, Iowa, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Arizona, Indiana, Massachusetts, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Alabama, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Arkansas — a majority of them Republican — have said that they are seeking to stop the relocation of new Syrian refugees to their states out of fear that violent extremists posing as refugees might gain entry to the country.
