“Gray State” Film Family Killed, Labeled ”Murder-Suicide” – Dead For Weeks
David Crowley, aged 29, had headed up a small crew for an ongoing full-feature and highly anticipated production called Gray State. The project had been in the works for over four years. A description excerpt from the film’s website, which raised over $61,000 from fans:

In a stomach-churning turn of events, the filmwriter/producer David Crowley, his 28-year-old wife Komel, and young daughter, Rani, were found dead in their Apple Valley, MN home – after not being seen or heard from since before Christmas.
Most of the information about the discovery centers on neighbor Collin Prochnow who saw packages piling up and decided to check up and ring the door bell, when he glanced in the window and saw all three Crowleys on the floor, that “just didn’t look human.” He had actually told his wife there were dummies [mannequins] on the floor along with a black handgun, before calling police. But the police reported finding people who were “obviously dead.”
How can an entire family, including a five-year-old daughter go unnoticed for so long? All reports indicate that their bodies had been on the living room floor since before Christmas. The neighbor figures that it happened before Christmas, as packages were piling up at the Crowley home and there was no activity stemming from the home since before then. Reportedly, family and at least one colleague tried unsuccessfully to reach them before Christmas. The actual cause or time of death has not been released. By Sunday, the previously crowded mailbox and front stoop were bare.
Mainstream media have labeled it an apparent “murder-suicide” but – hear for yourself what police found when they arrived on January 17th….
Audio of the police communication is public and at around 2:35 mentions that the officers found the rear sliding door unlocked, and slightly ajar.
Notably, there is no suicide note. Details linking the event to a murder-suicide have not been released except to call it “apparent.” A black handgun on the floor next to the family is, so far, where the investigative details end. In other words, definitive information of what happened to the Crowleys is either unknown or unreleased.
Yet, in a low attempt to frame the entire situation, Daily Mail headlined their story “Gun-enthusiast, his dietitian wife and their five-year-old daughter lay dead from murder-suicide in their suburban home for WEEKS before neighbors discovered them” and featured pictures of Crowley in movie gear, including a gas mask, and unflattering pictures of his wife Komel who had been a nutritional dietitian. Whereas many headlines will feature stories of former veterans with reverence, Daily Mail has decided that this means lunacy and have obviously framed Crowley as the instigator. With so few details known, that is an incredibly disrespectful and reactionary way to create a different story stemming from a tragic event.
Other headlines have followed similar suits here, here and here by sculpting their own summations of his film project, using selective comments, and pointing to gun-lovin’ Instagram photos which might actually be showing mere movie props. The exploitation fires have been stoked by neighbors’ comments of Crowley wearing fatigues, having tattoos and short-cropped hair – which, in any other context wouldn’t be newsworthy in the least.
Not only should the police audio warrant some pause, but also the strangeness that no one in the neighborhood heard or witnessed any commotion leading to the family’s death, nor barking from a hungry dog that survived for weeks after the event. The neighbor who reported the discovery had shoveled their driveway a couple times, and his wife noticed that the curtains had been wide open when they were usually closed. Upon further reflection, Prochnow remembers a night in December when he awoke to something like gunshots but did not think on it anymore until Saturday when he made the call.
Even the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office who are assisting the Apple Valley Police Department with the investigation, confirm that “they are treating the death as ‘suspicious.’”
No other details are have been released by investigators at this time.
In 2013, Michael T. Winter, a contributor for Activist Post, wrote a speculative op-ed entitled “Is Gray State a Psy-ops?” which garnered considerable commentary from supporters of the film. David Crowley reached out to Winter and together they created an interesting follow up Q&A that includes an editor’s note, and significant openness on Crowley’s part. Winter reportedly went on to be a script consultant for the film.
The Gray State Facebook page hasn’t been updated since late November 2014. Gray State: The Rise was a dual non-fiction project that was to feature interviews with Col. After experiencing a data wipeout, the crew mentioned they were working to get back on track and were on the brink of releasing The Rise film online for free. It was during this time, that he and business partner Mitch Heil parted ways.

I know Obama came into office claiming to be a Christian but he has officially blown his cover with his most recent hostile remarks toward Christians. He claims to have compassion and concern but it’s clearly limited to the well being of the Syrian refugees and Muslims. He is showing no compassion for the people who are concerned about the security of our country and no compassion for the Christian faith. Americans just want to know the president’s priority is to protect our country and show compassion for the people of our country as well as for others. The director of the FBI (James Comey) warned that they can not effectively vet the refugees to screen out terrorists and ISIS already announced they plan to infiltrate America through the refugees immigrating here. Yet when these concerns are raised people are accused of lacking compassion? We are not serving the people of this country or the refugees by giving ISIS an open door. I pray for Obama and all the leaders to have wisdom and discernment in these crazy times. At this point Obama appears to be anti-Christian. …Barack Obama began the first Wednesday after the attacks in the same way he began the first Monday, with a verbal assault on Republicans at a press conference on foreign soil. “We are not well served when in response to a terrorist attack we descend into fear and panic,” he said at a press conference in the Philippines. “We don’t make good decisions if it’s based on hysteria or an exaggeration of risks. The refugee debate is an example of us not being well served by some of the commentary taking place by officials back home and in the media.”
Then his comments became even more pointed. He accused Republicans of aiding in Islamic State recruitment by suggesting that there be a religious test for refugees that would give preference to Christians. “I cannot think of a more potent recruitment tool for ISIL than some of the rhetoric coming out of here in the course of this debate,” he said, using an acronym for the Islamic State. “It’s counterproductive and it needs to stop.”

Buddhist monks formerly of Tibet from Drepung Monastery’s Gomang College will visit Dickinson College for a five-day residency beginning Tuesday.
The residency serves as part of the monks’ Sacred Arts tour of the United States, which gives spectators the chance to experience various Tibetan cultural traditions.
During their time on campus, the monks will construct a mandala (a spiritual symbol representing the universe) out of colored sand; perform a puja, a spiritual showcase of prayer and ritual; and perform a cultural program with traditional Tibetan dances and chants. Additionally, the monks will have the opportunity to interact with Dickinson students and staff in classrooms and in the dining hall.
“The monks are traveling the country for one year sharing their culture and offering prayers,” said Clarke Forum Program Manager Jolie Rankin. “It should be a really interesting experience.”
This may come as a shock to many people, but representation in Congress is based on total population, not on the number of citizens.

Moldovan authorities have teamed up with the FBI in push to prevent nuclear material falling into the hands of Islamic State extremists in the Middle East and Africa.
Moldovan police working with the FBI have disrupted a string of attempts by gangs in the former Soviet Republic to sell radioactive materials to Islamic extremists, including a putative deal to supply Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) terrorists with enough caesium to contaminate several city blocks.
No less than four such attempts by groups with suspected Russian connections have been interrupted in the past few years, the sellers repeatedly seeking out buyers who would use the radioactive products to target the United States.
The alarming findings, made in an Associated Press (AP) investigation based on documents provided by Moldovan police, raises fresh concerns about unaccounted for materials taken from vast stockpiles of radioactive substances when the Soviet Union collapsed 24 years ago.
And to make matters worse, investigators have warned that the recent break down in intelligence sharing and inter-governmental cooperation between the United States and Russia has created a favourable environment for future nuclear smuggling operations.
“We can expect more of these cases,” said Contantin Malic, a Moldovan police officer who took part in all four investigations. “As long as the smugglers think they can make big money without getting caught, they will keep doing it,” he told AP.
But he warned that attempts to round up the ringleaders of the smuggling rings have been thwarted by a police tendency to swoop in the early stages of a deal – often catching front men, but giving masterminds further up the chain time to flee.
In the case involving the caesium, the would-be smuggler wanted €2.5 million (£1.8 million) for enough of the highly radioactive substance to contaminate several city streets with a dirty bomb.
When police broke up the deal in a dramatic raid in February, they recovered a single vial of caesium in a less radioactive form than the gang had said it could provide – possibly a case of false advertising. Moldovan officials said the most serious case they had encountered was in 2011, when a middle man working for a Russian called Alexander Agheenco tried to sell bomb-grade Uranium 235, along with bomb designs, to a Sudanese buyer. The seller reportedly insisted that the product went to “an Islamic buyer” because he could be sure that they would use it against Americans.
Eastern Europe is not the only potential source of radioactive material for would-be nuclear terrorists. Transnistria is known to have had some stockpiles of radioactive material when it split from Moldova in a war in the 1990s.
Isil militants seized up to 40 kilograms of uranium compounds from Mosul University when they overran the northern Iraqi city last summer.
In a letter to Ban Ki Moon, the United Nations secretary general, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim, the Iraqi ambassador to the UN, warned that the compounds, which are not believed to have contained enriched uranium, “can enable terrorist groups, with the availability of the required expertise, to use it separate or in combination with other materials in its terrorist acts.” He also warned it could be smuggled out of Iraq.
The gunman who opened fire at an Oregon community college was forcing people to stand up and state their religion before he began blasting away at them, survivors said Thursday.
A woman who claimed to have a grandmother inside a writing class in Snyder Hall, where a portion the massacre unfolded, described the scene in a tweet.
“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” she wrote. “If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs. My grandma just got to my house, and she was in the room. She wasn’t shot, but she is very upset.
Moments after hearing a bullet come flying through a window, she said the 20-year-old shooter made his way inside and targeted their teacher, pumping a single round into their head.
As the young man ordered people to the ground, Moore laid patiently with her classmates and waited, according to the News Review.
Once they all got down, she said the gunman began asking people to rise and say what their religion was. After they stood and gave their answer, he started shooting.

The number of people applying for or receiving security clearances whose fingerprint images were stolen in one of the worst government data breaches is now believed to be 5.6 million, not 1.1 million as first thought, the Office of Personnel Management announced on Wednesday.
The agency was the victim of what the US believes was a Chinese espionage operation that affected an estimated 21.5 million current and former federal employees or job applicants. The theft could give Chinese intelligence a huge leg up in recruiting informants inside the US government, experts believe. It also could help the Chinese identify US spies abroad, according to American officials.
The White House has said it’s going to discuss cybersecurity with Chinese president Xi Jinping when he visits Barack Obama later this week.
The Obama administration has not publicly blamed China or taken any public action in retaliation for the hack. Intelligence officials have called the data a fair intelligence target, one the US would pursue if it had the chance.
