FRANCE SEEKS TO RECLAIM “NO-GO” ZONES

Despite the scale of the damage, French police have hesitated to make any arrests for fear of sparking more riots. Residents of the neighborhood know the names of the perpetrators but “nobody dares to speak for fear of reprisals.” “You can no longer order a pizza or get a doctor to come to the house.”

The French government has announced a plan to boost policing in 15 of the most crime-ridden parts of France in an effort to reassert state control over the country’s so-called “no-go” zones: Muslim-dominated neighborhoods that are largely off limits to non-Muslims.

The crime-infested districts, which the French Interior Ministry has designated as Priority Security Zones (zones de sécurité prioritaires, or ZSP), include heavily Muslim parts of Paris, Marseilles, Strasbourg, Lille and Amiens, where Muslim youths recently went on a two-day arson rampage that caused extensive property damage and injured more than a dozen police officers.

The crackdown on lawlessness in the ZSP is set to begin in September, when French Interior Minister Manuel Valls plans to deploy riot police, detectives and intelligence agents into the selected areas. The hope is that a “North American-style” war on crime can prevent France’s impoverished suburbs from descending into turmoil.

If the new policy results in a drop in crime, Valls is expected to name up to 40 more ZSP before the summer of 2013.

The initial 15 ZSP are: Seine-Saint-Denis (Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen), Paris (Paris XVIIIe), les Yvelines (Mantes-la-Jolie, Mantes-la-Ville), l’Essonne (Corbeil-Essonne), la Somme (Amiens), le Nord (Lille), l’Oise (Méru et Chambly), la Moselle (Fameck et Uckange), le Bas-Rhin (Strasbourg), le Rhône (Lyon IXe), les Bouches-du-Rhône (Gardanne et Bouc-Bel-aire), Marseille (Marseille IIIe, XIIIe, XIVe, XVe et XVIe), le Gard (Vauvert et Saint-Gilles), l’Hérault (Lunel et Mauguio) et la Guyane (Cayenne, Matoury, Remire-Montjoly).

Many of these new ZSP coincide with Muslim neighborhoods that previous French governments have considered to be Sensitive Urban Zones. (Zones Urbaine Sensibles, or ZUS) — also “no-go” zones for French police.

At last count, there were a total of 751 Sensitive Urban Zones, a comprehensive list of which can be found on a French government website, complete with satellite maps and precise street demarcations. An estimated five million Muslims live in the ZUS — parts of France over which the French state has lost control.

Consider Seine-Saint-Denis, a notorious northern suburb of Paris, and home to an estimated 500,000 Muslims. Seine-Saint-Denis is divided into 40 administrative districts called communes, 36 of which are on the French government’s official list of “no-go” zones.

Seine-Saint-Denis, also known locally as “Department 93” for the first two digits of the postal code for this suburb, witnessed fierce rioting by Muslim youths in 2005, when they torched more than 9,000 cars.

Seine-Saint-Denis, which has one of the highest rates of violent crime in France, is now among the initial 15 ZSPs because of widespread drug dealing and a rampant black market. Because, however, the suburb also has one of the highest unemployment rates in France — 40% of those under the age of 25 are jobless — it remains unlikely that a government crackdown will succeed in bringing down the crime rate in any permanent way.

‘You know who I am’: Paris gunman murders two and holds five hostage in Kosher grocery shop

An armed gunman, suspected to be the same assailant who who killed a policewoman on Thursday, has taken several hostages and is believed to have shot two people in a Jewish grocery shop in the east of Paris.

Five hostages, including children, are being held in Kosher grocery Hyper Cacher off from at Rue Albert Willemetz, a side street off the main Porte de Vincennes boulevard, a police source confirmed to The Independent. At least one shop employee had escaped, he said.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the gunman, thought to be 32-year-old Amedy Coulibaly, is refusing to release any of the hostages until the Kouachi brothers are allowed to flee the police siege further north.

The man, who is reportedly armed with two Kalashnikov rifles, is said to have told police officers: “You know who I am.”

Coulibaly’s girlfriend Hayat Boumedienne, 26, has also be named by police as a person of interest. It is believed that Ms Boumedienne attended a suspected jihadist training camp in Cantal, a mountainous area of central France.

MASSACRE IN PARIS -12 SHOT DEAD – WHY?

Twelve people were executed and eleven injured today after gunmen targeted staff by name at the offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine, in the heart of Paris, France.  The editor, journalists, and four well known cartoonists and two police offices were murdered by gunman using assault rifles shouting “Allahu Akbar,” an Islamic phrase meaning “God is greater”.  The three gunmen are still at large – they escaped by car which has since been found abandoned, though someone has been arrested in Reims, north-east of Paris.

Other cities in France – Nantes, Tours and Dijon – have seen attacks on a smaller scale by lone individuals in the past 4 weeks and France has been on a state of alert over the Christmas period as a result.

The French Republic has been confrontational in dealing with violent Islamist groups in their territories worldwide, and tolerates no religious extremism from any group, recently banning the wearing of the burqa veil in public for Muslim women.

Human values and freedom of the press are at the heart of the issue for many, as hundreds gather in Paris and London, mourning and protesting at the horror of the attack. The controversial magazine has often mocked politicians and religions. The Charlie Hebdo offices were firebombed in 2011 and its website was hacked, after the cover featured the prophet Muhammad. In 2012 the magazine again published crude Muhammad caricatures, drawing condemnation from around the Muslim world.

The cover of this week’s issue of the newspaper focuses on a new book by Michel Houellebecq, “Submission,” published today, which depicts France led by an Islamic party by 2022 that bans women from the workplace.

Paris, and many cities in France and the UK are on high alert, as concern that shopping centres, media and newspaper offices, and religious organisations may be soft targets for extremists.

How do we stop this happening in our cities?

Police say it is virtually impossible to protect people and can only hope to arrest after the fact. Liberals say the all citizens should be unarmed so as to make them easier targets.

Ethan Hawke: Brooklyn is what Manhattan used to be

Longtime Manhattan resident Ethan Hawke joined the flood of stars relocating to Brooklyn, and says it’s because the borough’s like Manhattan used to be.

“The whole city’s changing, while Brooklyn feels to me the way New York was a while ago,” he told Manhattan magazine.

“Brooklyn is about the barometric pressure of New York turned down about 20 points.”

The “Boyhood” star moved with wife Ryan and their kids to Brooklyn Heights in 2013.

Other celebs in the neighborhood include Lena Dunham, who bought a $4.8 million pad with rocker Jack Antonoff, and Keri Russell.

Bucking the trend, Adam Driver was recently seen moving from his nearby Brooklyn Heights pad after he landed a role in the new “Star Wars” franchise.

Woman Drops an EPIC Truth Bomb on NYC Mayor, Sharpton & Obama in Rant About ‘Killing Cops’

by Gina Cassini | Top Right News

Two weeks ago I reported on the “Honestly Speaking” woman who unleashed a viral rant on the Ferguson thugs.

Well, in the wake of the the “execution” of two NYPD officers, she is back with her thoughts, and they are positively scathing.

She shreds the mayor for the way he race-baited on the case, and slams Obama for hanging around with Al Sharpton.

“De Blasio, Mike Brown is not your son. Okay, you are the mayor of New York City,” she said. “You just had two officers shot because of your reckless speaking. You stand behind Al Sharpton and he stands for nothing at all.”

This fearless woman — who reportedly received death threats — also said that neighborhoods where protesters yell for vengeance against police, such as “What do we want? Dead cops,” be left alone to police themselves.

And she ends with an inspiring call-to-arms.

GENERATIONAL HATE WAS ONLY SATISFIED BY INNOCENT BLOOD

Saturday during the filming of PTV’s airing the news clips of Racists in the street shouting “What do we want, dead cops, when do we want them, now”, a word was released into New York City and those deepening the racial divide and indeed the insanity against the police. Within an hour the tide began to change. So sad their hate movement would only be stopped by blood…. Innocent Blood !

NEW YORK (AP) — Civil rights leaders Sunday condemned the ambush killings of two New York police officers and expressed fear that the backlash over the bloodshed could derail the protest movement that has grown out of the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

In the raw hours following the killing of the officers, police union officials and politicians accused those who have protested the deaths of Garner and Brown of fanning anti-police fervor. Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolman’s Benevolent Association in New York, said there was “blood on the hands” of demonstrators and elected officials who have criticized police tactics.

The Garner and Brown families issued statements repudiating the officers’ killings, while civil rights leaders took to the airwaves to try to put some distance between the movement and the crime.

“To link the criminal insanity of a lone gunman to the peaceful protests and aspirations of many people across the country, including the attorney general, the mayor and even the president, is simply not fair,” NAACP President Cornell William Brooks said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Brooks said the shootings were “certainly not a step forward” for the movement.

Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were gunned down at close range in their patrol car in Brooklyn on Saturday by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who then committed suicide. Before the attack, Brinsley, 28, wrote on an Instagram account: “I’m putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours, let’s take 2 of theirs.”

He used the hashtags Shootthepolice RIPErivGardner (sic) RIPMikeBrown — references to two blacks who died at the hands of police. Garner died in a New York City officer’s chokehold, and Brown was shot by an officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Grand juries decided not to bring charges against either officer.

In the wake of the ambush, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani lashed out at New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder. Speaking on Fox News, Giuliani said: “We’ve had four months of propaganda starting with the president that everybody should hate the police.”

“They have created an atmosphere of severe, strong, anti-police hatred in certain communities, and for that, they should be ashamed of themselves,” he said.

In a tweet, former New York Gov. George Pataki called the killings the “predictable outcome of divisive, anti-cop rhetoric of Attorney General Eric Holder and Bill De Blasio.”

The accusations stoked fears that any gains made in the protest movement would be lost.

“We’ve been denouncing violence in our community,” no matter who the target is, New York community activist Tony Herbert said. He said he worries that the shooting will be used to discredit the larger cause.
