Nancy Pelosi has created a new House committee with subpoena to oversea the coronavirus response.
“It would have subpoena power that’s for sure. It’s no use having a committee unless you have subpoena power,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said Thursday during a teleconference call with reporters. “And we would hope that there would be cooperation because this is not a kind of an investigation of the administration it’s about the whole [response].”
Pelosi said that Adam Schiff and others proposed such a committee to oversea the here and now issues of the response, instead of setting up a committee later to look at how the response was conducted.
Pelosi as said the committee will be bipartisan and will have both democrats and members of the GOP.
“The committee will be empowered to examine all aspects of the federal response to coronavirus, and to assure that the taxpayers’ dollars are being wisely and efficiently spent to save lives, deliver relief and benefit our economy,” she said.
One America News has been banned from White House press briefings after its reporters violated social distancing rules.
White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) has established an attendance rota for press to attend press conferences during the Coronavirus crisis. Only journalists who have their name on the rota can attend. However OANN journalist Chanel Rion attended briefings twice, when her name was not on the list.
As a result WHCA have removed OANN from the list rota as long as restrictions are in place.
Drug cartels have seen supply chains from China disrupted. The chemicals needed to make the synthetic drugs typically come from China and these are not making it through to the cartels in Mexico.
The price of heroin, methamphetamines and fentanyl have soared in recent weeks amid the Covid-19 crisis.
“The cartels have suffered from COVID-19 due to the inability to get the regular shipments of synthetic opioids and precursor chemicals for the massive production of meth from China,” Derek Maltz, a former special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Operations Division in New York told the press.
“The cartels have continued their production at a slower rate, but the demand seems to be increasing during these times of uncertainty in America. The shutdown of cities in China and travel in and out of China have also negatively impacted the flow of chemicals and drugs to Mexico.”
