WHAT IS THE MEDIA DOING TO OUR CHILDREN?

In recent months there has been growing outrage about the sexualisation of children. Psychologists have been shocked by the rapid increase in the numbers of teenage girls in recent years coming through their doors with a wide range of problems from depression, self-harm, eating disorders and anxiety. The experts are beginning to believe the cause is the sexual pressure girls are now under.

In 2009 a Florida teen, Hope Witsell aged 13, committed suicide after sending a topless photo of herself to a boy, which he then shared with his friends. In a similar story Chevonea Kendall-Bryan, also aged 13 from London, fell to her death from a balcony where she was perched, threatening to jump if her boyfriend did not delete topless pictures of her on his phone.

In the UK the children’s charity, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) conducted a study in 2010. The study revealed how “normal” hard core pornography is, in the lives of teenagers. The study concluded that the access of sexually explicit material is creating a generation of teenage boys who believe that is what relationships are like.

One teenage girl interviewed said, “If they [the boys] want oral sex, they will ask every single day until you say yes.”

A boy the same age said, “Say I got a girlfriend, I would ask her to write my name on her breast and then send it to me and then I would upload it on to Facebook or Bebo or something like that.”

The study discovered it was common place for boys as young as 13 to have dozens of images of girls on their smartphones. The boys would share the photos of these topless girls with their friends, in the same way boys once swapped soccer cards.

The teenagers said that sexting was the new flirting. With boys taking pictures of their genitalia and sending them to a girl they fancied, she then replies with an image of her breasts.

Teachers speak of children unable to sleep without watching porn. Boys “learning” about sex and women from watching porn, and being normalised to sexual violence.

The problem crosses social demographics, it is as commonplace in the most affluent of areas as well as the socially deprived areas.

In this new world where hard core porn is readily available, parents are left feeling bewildered that the world has changed so much. They fear for their daughters, not wanting them to be the target of such high pressure advances; they fear for their sons, not wanting them to access the violent and depraved pornography so easy to find on the internet.

But should parents be surprised? With media teaching that pornography is normal? With children and teenagers listening to pop stars like Rihanna singing “Come on rude boy, boy, can you get it up? Come on rude boy, boy, is you big enough?”, as she looks like a dominatrix simulating sex moves on stage?

With parents frightened and ill prepared they are asking: “what can we do?”

NORTH KOREA RELEASES VIDEO APPARENTLY SHOWING THE ATTACK OF A US CITY

North Korea’s official government website released a propaganda video showing a young man sleeping and having a dream. In his dream the man goes in a space shuttle and orbits the earth. The dream shows a missile being launched, similar to one the rogue state tested in December last year.

The dream then shows a unified Korea, and an image of the America flag. This is followed by images of a city like New York under attack.

“Somewhere in the United States, black clouds of smoke are billowing,” runs the caption across the screen.

“It seems that the nest of wickedness is ablaze with the fire started by itself,” it added.

The music in the background is “We Are the World”. The video ends with the young man waking up and with him concluding this dream will “surely come true”.

It is expected that North Korea will soon perform more nuclear tests, despite further UN sanctions imposed in December.

“MUSLIM PATROLS” BECOMING MORE COMMON ACROSS EUROPE’S CITIES

Large scale immigration has changed the demographic of many of Europe’s cities. In the UK, multiculturalism has left some of England’s largest cities with areas in which Muslims make up with majority of the population, and schools have more children with English as a second language, than native English speakers.

Now some of the failures of multiculturalism are becoming more apparent as some Muslim communities have failed to integrate into the local communities.

In many parts of London, and other English cities, white residents are moving out. With one London borough seeing a third of the white British population leave in recent years. The result is, areas which feel more like downtown Islamabad than inner city London. Those who have remained feel increasingly like strangers in the places they grew up.

Now an anti-extremist organisation has warned that Britain could see more Muslim Patrols on their city streets. Muslim Patrols are springing up across Europe. Groups of young Muslim men intimidating non-Muslims to conform to the demands of sharia law.

Recently a video posted on YouTube showed a Muslim Patrol confront a man drinking alcohol telling him to stop, that he was in a “muslim area”. The video also showed the men verbally abuse a homosexual man, and a young woman for not dressing modestly, describing white women as “naked animals with no self–respect”.

Maajid Nawaz, the chairman of the Quilliam Foundation, has now raised concerns that these Muslim Patrols could become more common, and more violent. As more and more young British Muslim men go to dangerous Islamic nations, like Syria, Libya, Mali and Somalia, and become more radicalised by al-Qaeda groups operating in these countries.

“Scores of young European-born Arabs and Somalis are following in the footsteps of British Pakistanis in travelling to lawless conflict zones.

“What happens when these men, schooled in the use of political violence in far-flung places, return to Britain?”

UK PARLIAMENT VOTES TO LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE

The House of Commons, in London, voted today to legalise same-sex marriage. The Prime Minister won the vote with a comfortable margin of 400 to 175 against. The bill will now pass to the House of Lords, where it is expected to face stiffer opposition.

The bill has divided David Cameron’s Conservative party, with more than half of his own MPs voting against the bill, and the Prime Minister relying on support from the Liberal Democrats and Labour to win the vote.

Although the bill is likely to face a tougher challenge in the Lords, it is predicted that the bill will become law, by May.

FRENCH LABOR MINISTER: FRANCE “TOTALLY BANKRUPT”

The French labor minister, Michel Sapin, caused a stir on Monday when he described the country as “totally bankrupt” during a radio interview.

The comments will cause yet more embarrassment for French President Francois Hollande.

“There is a state but it is a totally bankrupt state,” Mr Sapin said. “That is why we had to put a deficit reduction plan in place, and nothing should make us turn away from that objective.”

The French government are seeking to reduce their massive deficit through a mixture of spending cuts and tax hikes.

The tax hikes are already causing a capital flight, as the wealthy leave the country to avoid Hollande’s proposed 75% tax rate on the wealthy.

IT IS CLAIMED DAVID CAMERON’S WIFE IS “DRIVING FORCE” BEHIND GAY MARRIAGE PUSH IN THE UK

As British Prime Minister David Cameron continues to push ahead with his government’s plans to legalise same-sex marriage in the UK, many in his party are feeling alienated. The majority of grass roots Conservatives are opposed to the plan.

A minister has now suggested the driving force behind the policy is the Prime Minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron.

Mrs Cameron is the daughter of a baronet, and is known for her socially liberal views. She is said to be horrified by the socially conservative views of America’s Republicans.

The suggestion came out, at the same time as Mandrake asked David Cameron’s mother why her son was so determined to go ahead with a policy, that so many conservatives are opposed to. Mary Cameron, a former Justice of the Peace, replied, “I know, but David just won’t be told.”

SCIENTIFIC PROOF: SMOKING WEED HAS COGNITIVE AND PSYCHOMOTOR EFFECTS

Advocates of cannabis use as a recreational drug have long argued that it is safe. However, a new study has shown that smoking weed has a negative effect on brain function.

The main active constituent in canabis is Delta(9)-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The study looked at the effect of increasing the dose of Delta(9)-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), combined with tobacco, on users compared with the control group who did not smoke cannabis. Before now no one had studied the effects of increased levels of Delta(9)-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on behaviour.

As the strength of weed increases, and as some states have now legalised recreational cannabis use the study is very timely.

The results showed that users showed worsening motor skills and processing times. The study warned that consequently recreational cannabis use poses a public health and safety issue.

There will also be leaders from the media, business, and academia.

In the run up to the conference the founder of the World Economic Forum, Professor Klaus Schwab, has said the mood this year is more optimistic than last, but has warned that the global economy could still collapse if more is not done to promote growth.

On the agenda will be the continuing eurozone crisis, the US Fiscal Cliff, weak economic growth, soaring national debts, and the latest stimulus program in Japan.

The World Economic Forum seeks to promote a global governance platform to address the global issues that national governments alone can not tackle.

WILL CHANGING GUN LAWS AFFECT VIOLENT CRIME STATISTICS IN AMERICA?

As the gun debate continues in America, the main question must be: Will reforming the gun laws in America save lives?

In his debate with Alex Jones, CNN broadcaster, Piers Morgan pointed out Britain only had 35 homicides as a result of shooting. However, this only tells part of the story.

The United Kingdom has never had a gun culture like that in the States. Guns tend to be in the hands of farmers, wealthy landowners, and a few enthusiasts. However knife violence is a major problem in many UK cities, in particular Glasgow. Glasgow has the second highest murder rate in Western Europe, and has been called the Murder Capital of Europe.

Many have tried for decades to deal with the gang culture within Glasgow and failed. Millions of pounds have been spent, and initiatives tried with no success. The streets of Glasgow still have young men fighting each other with knives, baseball bats, metal bars, anything they can find to cause serious injuries.

Will Vice President Biden and President Obama’s plans to reform US gun laws work? Time will tell, but history says probably not.

SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL: “SEXUAL COMING OF AGE”

This year’s Sundance Film Festival will showcase a number of movies about the porn, addiction and sex industry. Insiders are dubbing the festival theme this year as the “sexual coming of age”.

Speaking to Reuters, the Sundance Director of Programming Trevor Groth said the films indicate a new audience ‘hungry for the taboo of sexuality and sexual relationships’.

More than a dozen of the movies featured in this years festival will deal with sexual relationships in all their various forms. The number of films of a sexual nature are “part circumstance, part coincidence,” says festival director John Cooper.

”The themes and stories in films we show can be challenging to some, but ultimately, our mission is to show excellent and original work,” says Cooper.

“The times are changing, and relationships are changing,” adds Sundance Institute founder Robert Redford. “It would be a mistake to say this is sex for sex’s sake. The films are looking into sexual relations.”

View London Helicopter Crash in a larger map
Two people were killed and 12 injured after a helicopter crashed into a crane on the top of  The Tower, One St George Wharf, beside the Thames.

Passers by at first thought the incident was a terrorist attack. After hearing the loud crash and seeing fire.

The pilot Capt Peter Barns, was amongst the fatalities. Mr Barns was a highly experienced pilot who had piloted helicopters for Hollywood blockbusters like “Die Another Day” and “Saving Private Ryan”.

Police say it is a miracle not more people were killed in the incident. The crane operator escaped death, after sleeping in that morning, otherwise he would have been in his cab when the crash occurred.

Police say lack of visibility could have played a role in the crash.
