On Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York Civil Liberties Union announced their intention to file lawsuits against the Department of Homeland Security. DHS said this week that it will no longer allow New York state residents to sign up for popular programs intended to speed up international travel because of a state law that blocks immigration authorities from accessing motor vehicle records.
“You can’t do that. It’s an abuse of power. It is extortion,” Cuomo said at a press conference announcing the lawsuit.
New York’s “Green Light” law allows immigrants in the country illegally to apply for driver’s licenses. More than a dozen other states do the same. But New York’s law goes further: it prohibits the state’s DMV from sharing information with immigration authorities, unless a judge orders them to.
Ex Policeman and business owner, Harry Millar, has been recorded in a UK data base for committing a hate crime. Harry Millar received a phone call from a police man PC Mansoor Gull to inform him they had received a complaint from a member of the public claiming that Mr Millar’s business would be an unsafe place for him to work.
PC Gull then read out a number of tweets Mr Millar and made relating to trans people, one a poem he had retweeted. When Mr Millar challenged PC Gull as to what crime he had committed the policeman said none, but his name would be recorded as committing hate-speech. Mr Millar is unable to have his name removed from the records. As no crime has been committed, so there is no court case to prove or disprove innocence or guilt.
In the UK the definition of hate crime is:
“A hate incident is any non-crime perceived by the victim or any other person to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person’s race or perceived race / religion or perceived religion / sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation / disability or perceived disability / transgender or perceived to be transgender.”
In the UK a hate crime is commented according to what a person perceives, not under any legal framework. PC Gull told Mr Miller “I have to check your thinking”. Prompting the question: is the UK police force the thought police now? Mr Millar has chosen to sue the police over their hate speech agenda.

Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks was arrested last week in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. Assange faces extradition to the US, where he faces charges for publishing classified information on his Wikileaks site. The case is linked to documents Assange received from former Army soldier Chelsea Manning in 2010.
There have been calls to investigate texts that were sent by former Michelle Obama aide to the Prosecutor in the Jussie Smollett case.
Tchen, a friend of the Smollett family, contacted prosecutors early in the case saying the family were not happy with how the case was progressing. However, after it emerged that Smollett had falsely accused the two men of hate crimes against him, and the charges against Smollett were suddenly dropped; there have been calls to investigate Tchen’s full involvement in the case.
Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said Friday that Hillary Clinton’s attorney has been in contact with the Justice Department throughout the investigation into her use of a private email server as secretary of state.
“David Kendall is her top counsel and he has been in touch with the Justice Department throughout this review. We’ve always been very upfront about that,” Fallon said in an interview on CNN.
The FBI has already interviewed Clinton’s closest aide, Huma Abedin, as well as some other Clinton confidantes, CNN reported Thursday. However, in an interview with MSNBC Tuesday, Clinton said that the FBI had still not contacted her “representatives.”
Fallon did not address Clinton’s apparent mistruth. Instead, the spokesman confirmed Clinton’s claim that the FBI still had not contacted her.
“She said no, because the honest answer is it hasn’t happened yet,” Fallon said. “But whenever they do, we’ll be happy to accommodate that and make it happen.”
In the same Tuesday interview, Clinton denied that foreign hackers breached her server. Fallon and the State Department have stood by her assertion, despite the Romanian hacker Guccifer’s claim Wednesday that he easily hacked into Clinton’s email.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has decided not to take any further action against David Petraeus, a former U.S. military commander and CIA director who pleaded guilty to mishandling classified information, according to a letter seen by Reuters.
The short letter was sent by Stephen Hedger, the assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs, and the decision is in line with an Army review.
It was addressed to Senate Armed Service Committee Chairman Senator John McCain and Senator Jack Reed, who had recently asked Carter not to take further action.
The Pentagon could have potentially sought to further reprimand Petraeus under military law.
In April, the retired four-star general was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine but was spared prison time after pleading guilty to mishandling classified information.
Petraeus, a counter-insurgency expert with a Princeton University doctorate, served stints as the top U.S. commander in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and was once considered a possible vice presidential or presidential candidate.
He resigned from the CIA in 2012 after it was revealed that he was having an affair with his biographer, Army Reserve officer Paula Broadwell.

A day ago he was just another tourist on a train. On Saturday, U.S. Airman First Class Spencer Stone was treated for knife wounds in a hospital in France and applauded by world leaders for foiling what officials called an attempted terrorist attack.

But it may have been Stone, 23, of Lajes Air Base, Azores, who took the biggest risk. Stone’s height of at least six feet two inches and Jujitsu martial art and American football background probably helped him, a relative said.
“He was the first one to jump on him, he’s the one who got cut up … none of us are injured but Spencer took a few injuries and he just had no fear,” 23-year-old student Anthony Sadler told Reuters.
“That’s our friend so once we saw him go we had to go and join him … We couldn’t have just left everybody [to] die like that. It was a crazy situation,” said Sadler, a student at Sacramento State University.
Sadler said everything happened very fast as the attacker, armed with an automatic pistol and a box cutter as well as the AK-47 assault rifle, appeared to try to clear his weapon which seemed to be jammed.
Struck by bullet
One French-American passenger was hit by a bullet and was hospitalized for a chest wound. He was in serious but stable condition, authorities said.
“I woke up to basically people ducking and then I was, like, ‘Why is everybody ducking?’ and then, when I turned round to look, he, the gunman, had just entered the car with the AK and then I was, like: ‘This is really happening’,” Sadler said.
“We just all ran back there and we tried to do whatever we could to try and beat him up so he didn’t shoot anybody. He pulled out a box cutter and cut Spencer a couple of times but beside that we just tried to do whatever we could.”
Stone was treated for cuts and left the hospital on Saturday with his left arm bandaged and in a sling. He waved with his right hand to well-wishers and news media.
The elder Sadler, a 57-year-old pastor at Sacramento’s Shiloh Baptist Church, said: “We’re very, very thankful to God that he was not hurt or killed.”
Asked if his son would continue his European trip, Sadler said “No, the trip is over… That’s enough. He’ll be returning home as soon as possible.”
Fingerprint evidence shows that the gunman is a Moroccan known to European authorities as a suspected Islamist militant, according to a source familiar with the case. He is 26 and was under surveillance by Spanish authorities.
Briton Chris Norman, who helped the Americans overpower the gunman, said: “Without Spencer we’d all be dead.”
French movie actor Jean-Hugues Anglade, star of “Betty Blue” and “Nikita,” who was also on the train, was quoted as saying by BFMTV: “We were stuck in the wrong place with the right people. It’s miraculous.”
