NORTH KOREA THREATENS A PREEMPTIVE NUCLEAR STRIKE AGAINST THE US AS SOON AS MONDAY

North Korea has continued in it’s anti-America rhetoric, today saying they will launch a preemptive strike against the US, as soon as March 11th. North Korea say that American drills in South Korea, due to begin on Monday, are provocation for such a move.

A spokesman for the North’s foreign ministry said: “Since the US is about to ignite a nuclear war, we will be exercising our right to preemptive nuclear attack against the headquarters of the aggressor in order to protect our supreme interest.”

Although it is believed North Korea has enough nuclear material to produce a crude nuclear device, it is not believed they have mastered the technology required to make a nuclear warhead capable of reaching the US.

A few hours after North Korea’s threat the UN security council ruled unanimously to impose tough new sanction on North Korea. The new sanctions are a response to the rogue states recent nuclear testing despite widespread international condemnation.

Susan Rice, US ambassador to the UN, said: “North Korea will achieve nothing by continued threats and provocations.

“These will only further isolate the country and its people and undermine efforts to promote peace in north east Asia.”

It is hoped the new sanctions will make it harder for North Korea to purchase the materials they need to advance their nuclear program.

SILVIO BERLUSCONI SENTENCED TO ONE YEAR IN PRISON

Former Italian President has been sentenced to one year in prison for leaking transcripts of police wiretap conversations, which later appeared in a newspaper he owns. The conversations involved a senior member of the centre-left Democratic Party, and were leaked before the 2006 elections. The publication of the documents in the “Il Giornale”,  has been regarded as an attempt to discredit the rival politician.

Mr Berlusconi is set to return to Italian politics after the recent elections. His centre-right group is the second strongest in the Italian parliament.

The sentence will not see Mr Berlusconi behind bars, as under Italian law anyone over the age of 75 who is given a sentence of less than one year does not go to jail, Mr Berlusconi is 76. Mr Berlusconi is also set to appeal the conviction. He is also facing two more charges this month: one for tax fraud, and the other for sex with an under age prostitute.

PRESIDENT HAS AUTHORITY TO KILL US CITIZENS ON AMERICAN SOIL SAYS HOLDER

Attorney General, Eric Holder, has said that the President has authority to kill US citizens on American soil using unmanned drones, in “extraordinary circumstances”, like those on 9/11.

President Obama has been critized for his use of “targeted killing” of al-Qaeda suspects overseas. Targeted killing uses unmanned drones to take out individuals who pose a serious threat to US security. The government has used targeted killing to assassinate US citizens in Pakistan and Yemen. Critics argue that targeted killing of al Qaeda suspects has left between 474 and 881 civilians dead, including around 174 children.

Republican Senator Rand Paul has described the latest revelations as “more than frightening”, saying, “It is an affront the constitutional due process rights of all Americans.”

Mr Paul has demanded that the Obama administration clarify it’s position on the subject.

FBI SECRETLY SPYING ON GOOGLE USERS, COMPANY REVEALS

The FBI used National Security Letters — a form of surveillance that privacy watchdogs call “frightening and invasive” — to surreptitiously seek information on Google users, the web giant has just revealed.

Google’s disclosure is “an unprecedented win for transparency,” privacy experts said Wednesday. But it’s just one small step forward. “Serious concerns and questions remain about the use of NSLs,” the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Dan Auerbach and Eva Galperin wrote. For one thing, the agency issued 16,511 National Security Letters in 2011, the last year for which data was available. But Google was gagged from saying just how many letters it received — leaving key questions unanswered. “The terrorists apparently would win if Google told you the exact number of times the Federal Bureau of Investigation invoked a secret process to extract data about the media giant’s customers,” Wired’s David Kravets wrote. He described the FBIs use of NSLs as a way of “secretly spying” on Googles customers.National Security Letters are a means for the FBI to obtain information on people from telecommunications companies, authorized by the Electronic Communications Privacy Act ECPA and expanded under the Patriot Act.

It lets the agency seek information on a subscriber to a wire or electronic communications service, although not things like the content of their emails or search queries, Google said. And thanks to secrecy constraints built into NSLs, companies that receive them usually aren’t even allowed to acknowledge the request for information. Citing such extreme secrecy, privacy experts have decried the use of these letters in the past.“Of all the dangerous government surveillance powers that were expanded by the USA PATRIOT Act, the National Security Letter NSL power … is one of the most frightening and invasive,” the EFF wrote. “These letters … allow the FBI to secretly demand data about ordinary American citizens private communications and Internet activity without any meaningful oversight or prior judicial review.”

Thanks to negotiations with the government, Google finally opened the smallest chink in the armor, allowing the search giant to reveal the fact that it had received these requests for data, as well as some general information about them.

“Visit our page on user data requests in the U.S. and you’ll see, in broad strokes, how many NSLs for user data Google receives, as well as the number of accounts in question,” Richard Salgado, Google’s legal director of law enforcement and information security, wrote in a Tuesday blog post.A new table posted to Google’s Transparency Report site outlines the details; it tabulates how many requests for information the company has received over each of the past four years: some undisclosed number between 0 and 999.

With those NSLs, the FBI sought information on somewhere between 1,000 and 1,999 users/accounts.“People don’t always use our services for good, and it’s important that law enforcement be able to investigate illegal activity,” Salgado wrote.

No other technology company presently disclose such basic information about government requests, experts noted.

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S POLICIES ATTACKED BY LEADING PAEDIATRIC NEUROSURGEON DURING SPEECH AT NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST

Until this week not many had heard of Dr Benjamin Carson. Dr Carson is a world leader in the field of paediatric neurosurgery, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor by President George W Bush in 2008, and in January was invited to speak at the National Prayer Breakfast, in front of the President and Vice President.

Dr Carson’s speech was a warning to America and the President. He drew parallels between the fall of Ancient Rome and modern day America. Explaining that Rome fell because of moral decay and poor fiscal controls, and arguing the same is happening in America today.

Dr Carson championed education, and the need for healthcare reform, attacking Obamacare. He addressed the ballooning US debt, calling for a flat tax rate to be introduced, to stimulate the economy.

It may be unlikely the President will take Dr Carson’s advise, but he is now being named by Republicans as a future Presidential candidate.

ITALIAN ELECTIONS COULD RE-IGNITE EUROZONE DEBT CRISIS

The Italian elections have left Italy with a result which may render the country ungovernable, and could reignite the eurozone debt crisis. The lower house was won by Pier Luigi Bersani’s centre-left bloc; but the upper house, the Senate, was taken by the centre-right, conservative block, led by Silvio Berlusconi. Protest party, Five Star, led by a popular Italian comedian, Beppe Grillo, came third.

Mr Bersani’s centre-left bloc had won 29.57% of the vote for the lower house (Chamber of Deputies) to 29.15% for Mr Berlusconi’s bloc.

Mr Grillo’s Five Star Movement had 25.54% and the centre left led by Mario Monti 10.57%.

Control of both upper and lower houses is required to govern.

Grillio campaigned to return to the Lira and Berlusconi campaigned against EU imposed austerity, calling for tax cuts to stimulate Italy’s ailing economy.

Bersani has pledged to stay the course of the EU crisis, wanting to work with Europe. However, he will find it hard to form a workable coalition.

As the results came in bond markets across Europe began to fall. Italy is the third biggest economy in the eurozone and has the power to bring the euro down.

Even if Bersani can form a government he cannot ignore the anti-austerity, anti-eurozone message from the election. Even within his own party there are deep divisions over Europe, and his party will want

ANCIENT PAPAL PROPHECY POINTS AT THE NEXT POPE BEING THE LAST

Yesterday saw Pope Benedict XVI formally step down. Now the Cardinals will begin the process, which has been carried out many times over the centuries to select the next Pope. However, an ancient papal prophecy suggests that the next Pope could be the last Pope.

St Malachy was a 12th century Irish Archbishop. He prophesied that there would be 112 more Popes, before Judgement Day. In his prophecy he gave a short cryptic verse about each Pope. Many of these verses have come to pass with startling accuracy. Pope Benedict XVI would be Pope 111 in the prophecy. Making the next Pope 112.

The prophecy for this final Pope is:

In the extreme persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit … Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations: and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the terrible judge will judge his people. The End.

PRISONS MAY BE FORCED TO HIRE WITCHES, IF FEDERAL COURT RULES

By Jessica Chasmar-The Washington Times, Monday, February 25, 2013
California taxpayers, who already pay for prison chaplains covering such faiths as Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Protestant and American Indian religions, might have to add witches to the list.

A lawsuit working its way through the federal court system would require state prisons to hire Wiccan chaplains. Two female convicts who practice Wicca sued the state for refusing to hire a paid full-time Wiccan chaplain and “by failing to apply neutral criteria in determining whether paid chaplaincy positions are necessary to meet the religious exercise needs of inmates adhering to religions outside the five faiths (Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Native American and Protestant),” according to an appellate court’s decision.

A federal court in Fresno, Calif., dismissed the lawsuit in 2011 after finding no violations in the women’s rights, but the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals brought it back to life this week by overturning the trial court’s decision. The San Francisco-based appellate court ordered the original judge to reconsider the case and determine whether state prisons unconstitutionally cater to majority religions, Judicial Watch reports.

The appellate court wrote that if the allegations are true, “the prison administration failed to employ any neutral criteria in evaluating whether a growing membership in minority religions warranted a reallocation of resources used in accommodating inmates’ religious exercise needs.”

While “the First Amendment does not require prison administration to provide inmates with the chaplain of their choice,” the state does require it to employ neutral criteria in deciding where funds are allocated, the decision reads.

TEENS HAD 3-WAY SEX ON BODIES OF MEN THEY STRANGLED

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER – Mail Online, UK
PUBLISHED: 14:55 EST, 26 February 2013 | UPDATED: 04:35 EST, 27 February 2013
An 18-year-old woman with a necrophilia fetish had three-way sex on the corpses of two men who she and her sexual partners strangled, it was claimed today. Joshua Miner, 24, piled the bodies of Eric Glover and Terrence Rankins, both 22, together and placed a beige sheet across them so he and his longtime girlfriend, Alisa Massaro, could lie together on top of them at Massaros home in Joliet, Illinois, according to police reports.

The corpses elicited a ‘zombie noise’ – a final gasping sound. The bodies also evacuated their bowels, Miner claimed.

They then hog-tied the victims’ hands and feet together with dirty clothes and and an electrical cord.

‘This is one of the most brutal, heinous and upsetting things I’ve ever seen in my 27 years of law enforcement,’ Police Chief Mike Trafton said after the January slayings.

‘Not only the crime scene, but the disregard for common decency toward human beings.’

Police reports say McKee knew Rankins and invited him and Glover over with promises of sexual favors.

Miner later admitted that they four believed the men had carried ‘lot of money’ and that they were planning to rob them. They believed Rankins was a drug dealer and carried $100 with him.

‘It’s demonic,’ Rankins’ mother, Jamille Kent, said.

‘This is evil.’

Trafton, the police chief, said Massaro, Landerman and Miner were ‘very much surprised’ when police walked in on them Thursday. McKee had left the house but police arrested her later in nearby Kankakee.

TB OUTBREAK IN LOS ANGELES

View Skid Row in a larger map

Reports of an outbreak of tuberculosis (TB) in the downtown area of Los Angeles has even the police taking precautions. Over the weekend, LAPD officers in the skid row area were advised via email and roll calls to use masks to protect themselves from risk of being infected by the disease if a situation seems to warrant the preccaution.

Mabel Aragon, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Health Department (LACHD), gave a statement Friday that the federal agency, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is helping in the process of surveillance and statistic gathering as the LACHD is in the process of confirming the number and type of TB cases in LA County.

Scott Bryan, spokesman for the CDC, confirmed they have been asked by both state and local TB officials to assist with the investigation. They are planning on sending in a team in about 2 weeks to further help with containment of the disease.

According to the Los Angeles Times, there have been almost 80 cases of a unique strain of TB identified including 11 deaths. Of those, 60 of the cases were from homeless individuals from the skid row area of Los Angeles. The strain which is unique to Los Angeles can be treated with anti-TB medications for 6 – 9 months.

BUG OR DRONE?

With the signing of a new law by President Obama this month, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been directed to completely open US airspace to drones by September 30, 2015. There are many uses arguable for the use of drones, but most think of the unmanned planes we have seen in action against Al Qaeda when the term drone is mentioned.

The Air Force Research Laboratory made an animated video of the many uses of Micro Air Vehicles and how they may work in the field. After being released by a larger air vehicle, these bird or bug like surveillance drones can literally fly under the radar as well as enter places other drones cannot.

The video includes a section on “Remote Tag and Target” and “Precision Engagement.” The narration states, “Individual MAV’s may perform direct attack missions and can be equipped with incapacitating chemicals, combustable payloads, or even explosives for precision targeting capabilities.”

A picture of an existing MAV drone is now pictured as the main image on the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base web site. Back on July 22, 2010, they also released a Fact Sheet entitled “MICRO AIR VEHICLE INTEGRATION & APPLICATION RESEARCH INSTITUTE.”

John Horgan of National Geographic has published an article called “Unmanned Flight: The Drones Come Home” in this month’s issue documenting the history of drones and their possible uses in the US.
