Joel Osteen shuts megachurch amid flooding crisis | New York Post

Televangelist Joel Osteen cancelled services at his Houston megachurch Sunday and has yet to reopen its doors — despite the fact that thousands of flooded-out residents are desperately seeking shelter. The perpetually smiling pastor told followers on Twitter on Monday to lean on their faith.“Jesus promises us peace that passes understanding,” he wrote. “That’s peace when it doesn’t make sense.”But Osteen’s comforting words didn’t sit well with critics, who want to know why the doors to his 16,800-seat arena at his Lakewood Church near downtown Houston are closed.“You have taken so much money away from your people to live like a king,” entertainment publicist Danny Deraney blasted. “It’s the least you could do.”

Washington DC-based writer Charles Clymer tweeted pictures of Lakewood Church, which did not appear to be damaged by floods.“It doesn’t make sense why you’re not opening up your mega church to house Houston citizens, help me understand that. Jesus,” according to Florida-based writer Emily Timbol. While the church and its arena have not suffered any flood damage yet, ministry spokesman Donald Iloff said their property is inaccessible because of surrounding waters. And it makes no sense to open church doors when the city and county are already treating thousands of flood victims at the nearby George R. Brown Convention Center, according to Iloff.“It has everything inside there – medicine, doctors, places to sleep,” Iloff said of the convention center. “It’s amazing what they’re doing there the make people comfortable.”

UPDATE: ESPN ISSUES OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON MOVING ROBERT LEE FROM VIRGINIA GAME: “We collectively made the decision with Robert to switch games as the tragic events in Charlottesville were unfolding, simply because of the coincidence of his name. In that moment it felt right to all parties. It’s a shame that this is even a topic of conversation and we regret that who calls play by play for a football game has become an issue.” Additionally, I had a conversation with a senior employee at ESPN who wanted to

How to see what Google knows about you – and how to DELETE it forever

GOOGLE is storing a terrifyingly detailed record of your web browsing habits and day-to-day life. But did you know there’s a way to view all the little secrets it knows about you – and delete the bits that you want to banish forever?

You can tweak your settings to get more control over what the technology giant tracks about you in the future, too.

It probably comes as little surprise that you can view the entirety of your web history.

But you may be more surprised to discover that if you’ve been signed in to your Gmail account on someone else’s phone or laptop, any of their searches will be saved too.

There’s also your Google Maps searches, your exact location data and any YouTube clips you’ve been watching.

What does Google know about me?

Google tracks an awful lot of data related to you.

For starters, it tracks your search and browsing history. But it also creates a private map of where you go with your signed-in devices, which can be tracked through a portal called “My Activity”.

The tech giant says it collects this for improved map searches, commuting routes “and more”.

On top of this, if you use an Android phone, your contacts, calendars and apps will all be stored in this hub too.

Not freaked out yet?

Google also stores brief audio recordings of your voice made using the microphone on your gadget if it thinks you were speaking to its digital assistant.

Plus, there’s your YouTube browsing history and personalised ads.

Essentially, the search giant creates a personality profile based on what you’ve been up to – and uses this to send your specific adverts.

How to view exactly what Google knows about you

First, you’ll need to be signed into your Gmail or Google account.

Once you’ve done that, type “history.google.com/history” into your web browser.

You’ll be taken to a hub which contains your entire digital footprint, so be careful, it could make for some grim reading.

This includes Maps searches and YouTube videos you’ve watched.

How to view what web activity Google stores

Click on “Activity Controls “on the left-hand side of the page.

Under “Web and App Activity”, click “Manage Activity”.

If Google’s keeping tabs on you, there should be a stream of web pages and map searches that show up in chronological order.

You can randomly delete searches, or select all the searches to make them disappear (we explain how further down).

Google knows exactly what phone you’re using

If you’ve had your Gmail account for some time, it’s likely you’ve upgraded phones along the way.

There’s a section which tells you what gizmos you’ve been using while searching the web.

You can have a look to see if any redundant ones are being used.

GOOGLE TIPS How to unsend a message on Gmail – essential tips to reclaim those embarassing email blunders

It’s a useful tool to see if anyone has your email account signed in on your phone.

You can access this using the “Sign-in & security” tab.

Scroll down to “Device activity & notifications”.

Here you’ll find “Recently Used Devices”, telling you when they were last used to access your account.

How to stop Google storing your activity

It is possible to stop Google from storing so much info in the future.

Go back to “Activity controls” and under “Web & App activity” you should see a blue toggle.

Switch it off.

How to find out what ads Google is sending you

Scroll to the bottom of the My Activity page and you should see a link for Ads.

Once you click on this you’ll be presented with a personality profile showing personalised ad preferences.

This includes topics from Bollywood films to sex robots, dependant on your own personal desires.

Again, you can switch this off using the blue toggle.
How to delete EVERYTHING

Before removing everything, you can make a copy to make sure you can find a website you’ve forgotten the name of, for example.

Under “Personal Info & Privacy”, scroll down to “Control Your Content” and under click “Download Your Data”.

When you’re ready to obliterate Google’s version, simply click the three dots in the right-hand corner of the “My Activity” screen and select “Delete Activity By”.

While you’re here, you might as well learn what snooping Facebook knows about you, too.

It probably knows more about you than your friends, collecting 98 pieces of data on you.

Is Google Working with Liberal Groups to Snuff Out Conservative Websites?

Google revealed in a blog post that it is now using machine learning to document “hate crimes and events” in America. They’ve partnered with liberal groups like ProPublica, BuzzFeed News, and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) to make information about “hate events” easily accessible to journalists. And now, there are troubling signs that this tool could be used to ferret out writers and websites that run afoul of the progressive orthodoxy.

In the announcement, Simon Rogers, data editor of Google News Labs, wrote:

Now, with ProPublica, we are launching a new machine learning tool to help journalists covering hate news leverage this data in their reporting.
The Documenting Hate News Index — built by the Google News Lab, data visualization studio Pitch Interactive and ProPublica — takes a raw feed of Google News articles from the past six months and uses the Google Cloud Natural Language API to create a visual tool to help reporters find news happening across the country. It’s a constantly-updating snapshot of data from this year, one which is valuable as a starting point to reporting on this area of news.

The Documenting Hate project launched in response to the lack of national data on hate crimes. While the FBI is required by law to collect data about hate crimes, the data is incomplete because local jurisdictions aren’t required to report incidents up to the federal government.

All of which underlines the value of the Documenting Hate Project, which is powered by a number of different news organisations and journalists who collect and verify reports of hate crimes and events. Documenting Hate is informed by both reports from members of the public and raw Google News data of stories from across the nation.

On the surface, this looks rather innocuous. It’s presented by Google as an attempt to create a database of hate crimes — information that should be available with a quick Google search, it should be noted. But a quick glance at the list of partners for this project should raise some red flags:

The ProPublica-led coalition includes The Google News Lab, Univision News, the New York Times, WNYC, BuzzFeed News, First Draft, Meedan, New America Media, The Root, Latino USA, The Advocate, 100 Days in Appalachia and Ushahidi. The coalition is also working with civil-rights groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, and schools such as the University of Miami School of Communications.
ProPublica poses as a middle-of-the-road non-profit journalistic operation, but in reality, it’s funded by a stable of uber-liberal donors, including George Soros’s Open Society Foundations and Herb and Marion Sandler, billionaire former mortgage bankers whose Golden West Financial Corp. allegedly targeted subprime borrowers with “pick-a-pay” mortgages that led to toxic assets that were blamed for the collapse of Wachovia. The Southern Poverty Law Center, of course, is infamous for targeting legitimate conservatives groups, branding them as “hate groups” because they refuse to walk in lockstep with the progressive agenda. And it goes with out saying that The New York Times and BuzzFeed News lean left.

Charlottesville violence: woman killed and 19 hurt | Daily Mail Online

At least one person is dead after a driver intentionally plowed into a group of anti-fascist protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, following violent clashes that erupted between white nationalists and activists on Saturday.James Alex Fields Jr, of Maumee, Ohio, is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. You are not wanted in this great commonwealth,’ McAuliffe proclaimed. ‘You are not patriots. You came here today to hurt people and that is not patriotic,’ McAuliffe added.Witnesses said moments before the car plowed into the crowd, a counter-protester had allegedly thrown a rock at the car, causing the driver to swivel around and ram into people and two cars in its way.

Unverified ‘Russiagate’ Allegations, Irresponsibly Promoted by Congress and the Media, Have Become a Grave Threat to American National Security

President Trump is right, relations with Russia are “at an all-time & very dangerous low,” and the US political-media establishment is making them worse.

By Stephen F. Cohen

Pointless and recklessly irresponsible new sanctions recently adopted almost unanimously by Congress against Russia are, as Cohen has long argued, evidence that the new Cold War is more dangerous than was its 40-year predecessor. Still worse, the sanctions, inspired more by unverified “Russiagate” allegations against Trump than by anything Moscow has actually done recently, further prevent him from seeking cooperation instead of conflict with the Kremlin, as previous presidents did and indeed as President Trump has tried to do. In themselves, sanctions are expressions of petulant attitudes, not real policy-making, and Moscow will cope with these as it has with many previous ones. After all, Russia has been under one kind of US sanction or another periodically for one hundred years, ever since Washington refused to recognize the new Soviet government in 1917 for 15 years, and without interruption since the Jackson-Vanick sanctions of the 1970s, followed by those of the Magnitsky Act, the ones leveled by former President Obama, and now these new ones. But today’s US-Russian relations really are, as President Trump has tweeted, “at an all-time & very dangerous low.” Consider, says Cohen, the following combination of factors, which are without precedent:

Eric Bolling Threatens to Sue HuffPo’s Yashar Ali for $50 Million Over Sexting Report

Fox News host Eric Bolling took the first legal step toward suing Huffington Post journalist Yashar Ali for $50 million over Ali’s report last week that he was accused of sending unsolicited, lewd text messages to female colleagues.“Just received a summons. Eric Bolling is suing me for defamation – $50 million in damages. I stand by my reporting + will protect my sources,” Ali tweeted. “It’s important to note that Bolling’s summons does not include HuffPost – he is coming after me personally. I’m a big boy…but very telling.”The “summons with  notice” means Bolling can file a lawsuit later, and states that Ali must answer the summons within 20 days. It accuses Ali of “efforts to injure the plaintiff’s reputation through the intentional and/or highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements about the plaintiff’s conduct and character.”

Competition, fame and religion drove Anna Faris and Chris Pratt apart | Page Six

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt, who announced on Sunday that they’re splitting after eight years of marriage, have been having problems for at least a year and a half, we’re told.“They’re very competitive with each other,” says a source. “At parties they compete over who’s funniest and get insecure if they’re not.”The discord also has to do with Pratt’s soaring career, with leads in “Jurassic Park” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”“When he started getting big roles and losing weight, she wasn’t the big star anymore,” the source said. “He’s also very, very religious, and she’s not religious.”Reps didn’t get back to us.

AUTHOR FROM THE 1800S PREDICT THE TRUMPS, RUSSIA AND AMERICA’S DOWNFALL?

Ingersoll Lockwood, an American political writer, lawyer and novelist, combined a unique mixture of science fiction and fantasy into his novels from the late 1800s. Two of his most popular works of literature were illustrated children’s stories, focusing on a peculiar fictional character whose name rings a bell in 2017: Baron Trump.

Trump, an aristocratically wealthy young man living in Castle Trump, is the protagonist of Lockwood’s first two fictional novels, The Travels and Adventures of Little Baron Trump and His Wonderful Dog Bulgar and Baron Trump’s Marvelous Underground Journey. The little boy, who has an unending imagination and “a very active brain,” is bored of the luxurious lifestyle he has grown so accustomed to. In a twist of fate, Trump visits Russia to embark on an extraordinary adventure that will shape the rest of his life.

Lockwood’s final novel arrived in 1896, titled The Last President.
