Massachusetts Care was supposed to be the model for national health care. It has not, however, worked out so well. After only 3 years, Massachusetts health insurance premiums are the highest in the nation. Governor Deval Patrick has called for price controls. Doctors have fled the state. And state treasurer Tim Cahill says the universal health care law is bankrupting Massachusetts, and will do the same thing nationally if Congress passes a similar plan to cover far more people.

Massachusetts state treasurer Tim Cahill recently left the Democrat Party to run for governor as an independent.

State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, an independent candidate for governor, today offered a wide-ranging and scathing criticism of the state’s universal health care law, saying it is bankrupting Massachusetts and will do the same nationally, if a similar plan is passed in Congress.

“If President Obama and the Democrats repeat the mistake of the health insurance reform here in Massachusetts on a national level, they will threaten to wipe out the American economy within four years,” Cahill said in a press conference in his office.

Echoing criticism leveled by Congressional Republicans in recent weeks, Cahill said, “It is time for the president, the Democratic leadership, to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new plan that does not threaten to bankrupt this country.”

Cahill said that health care costs have increased by $4.2 billion over what they were spending previously, and income has declined. “We haven’t done anything about driving down costs,” Cahill said. “We haven’t helped small business. We haven’t changed the way we pay for health care and the way we deliver it.”

White House: Its a penalty, Supreme Court: Its a tax

Penalty, tax, penalty.

The Supreme Court Justices argued the fine/penalty is legal under Congress’ authority to tax and that the ‘obamacare’ bill is therefore legal as a tax.

Jay Carney, the White House Press Secretary reiterated on Friday that the fine is still a “penalty”.

The tax label was fought vigorously by Obama in 2009 when promoting the ‘ObamaCare’ bill.

PORN VIEWER JOINS MYSTIFYING SEX HEADACHE CLUB

Over two years, every time a 24 year old bachelor who lived in India watched pornography he experienced such a severe headache that it forced him to stop watching.

Dr. Amy Gelfand, a neurologist at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, says that there are two types of headaches associated with sexual activity.

Sex headaches are a mystery regardless of the type and no one really knows what causes them, says Gelfand.

There are no suggested links between headaches and specific sexual behaviors that have been found in studies by researchers.

The physical and neurological exam results were reportedly normal.

The man was advised to take a combination of different medications which, apparently, are helping.

Supreme Court upholds individual mandate, ObamaCare survives | Fox News

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld nearly all of President Obama’s health care overhaul, in a landmark ruling that will have sweeping consequences for the economy, the election and America’s health care system.

In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled as constitutional the so-called individual mandate requiring most Americans to obtain health insurance starting in 2014.

Chief Justice John Roberts, who was appointed during a Republican administration, joined the four left-leaning justices on the bench in crafting the majority decision.

“The Affordable Health Care Act survives largely unscathed,” Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one of those justices, declared at the end of the reading, claiming the “setbacks” going forward will be “temporary blips, not permanent obstructions.”

EU leaders seek to avert euro collapse at key summit – EUROZONE – FRANCE 24.

As the European Union summit begins, the ongoing crisis will dominate talks. Ahead of the summit Angela Merkel has already ruled out the introduction of Eurobonds, saying that the appropriate measures are not in place for such a move.

Europe appears more divided than ever, with Spain and Italy calling for EU help to bring down their high borrowing costs; and Angela Merkel dismissing their calls for assistance.

The German’s are worried at French calls for debt polling, instead of focusing of debt reduction. Angela Merkel said, “I fear that at the summit we will talk too much about all these ideas for joint liability and too little about improved controls and structural measures,”

Third bunch of TSA firings suggests failures

Eight TSA (Transportation Security Administration) officers were fired at the Newark airport this Wednesday for sleeping on the job and or for other employment infractions.

This is the third large TSA group firing this month alone. The workers fired were seen on video sleeping in a checked baggage area at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Also this month: •Seven were fired in Philadelphia after one worker was convicted of bribery.

•Five were fired and 37 more, including the director, were suspended in Fort Myers, Fla., for not conducting additional screenings on hundreds of individuals. Last month:

•Four TSA agents were charged with drug trafficking and bribery, two of which were current and two who were former employees. The union representatives for the TSA workers; the American Federation of Government Employees, didn’t respond to any requests for further information or comment.

MEDICAL EXAMINER RULES OUT BATH SALTS IN MIAMI FACE-CHEWING ATTACK

Only Marijuana was detected in the system of the man shot while chewing Ronald Poppo’s face in Florida, so states the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner.  No other drugs were found, including bath salts.

The bizarre behavior has led to much speculation as to the cause.

A toxicology expert, Dr Bruce Goldberger, Professor and Director of Toxicology at the University of Florida said that marijuana by itself wasn’t likely to be the cause of the strange behavior demonstrated by Rudy Eugene.

The Medical Examiner’s office in Miami is well known for being thorough in its work according to Goldberger.

It’s not clear what led to the May 26 attack on Ronald Poppo, a 65-year-old homeless man who remains hospitalized. Eugene’s friends and family have said he was religious, not violent and that he didn’t drink or do drugs harder than marijuana.  Yovonka Bryant said that she and Eugene would often, together, read the Bible and Quran.

The policeman who shot a naked Eugene to death stated, that he was growled at when he told him to stop.  The cause remains unknown what led to the face chewing attack.  Friends and family indicate Eugene was religious and not violent and that he was not inclined to do any other drugs other than marijuana.

NYC Cab Drivers Ferrying Hookers, Could Receive Fines; Women Protest

A bill seeking to penalize cab drivers who knowingly aid prostitution by ferrying hookers is being targeted by a group of women who say the legislation will prevent cab drivers from picking up legitimate women in scantily-dressed attire.

One woman who protested outside of City Hall on Thursday told The New York Post, “They don’t even know who is a prostitute or not! You don’t have a shirt on that tells if you’re a prostitute or not.”  The new bill is also hoping to enforce mandatory training for those applying for a Taxi and Limousine Commission license on how to identify prostitutes and provide them with available resources on how to escape sex-trafficking. The Post notes the scene of Thursdays protest was filled with “hot babes” and bartenders.

An official from the tax union echoed their concerns and proposed, “I will challenge any one of you to tell me which one of [these women] you would consider to be a prostitute. They’re all sexy.”  As we predicted in May when the bill was first introduced, the scenario in which a driver distributes sex-trafficking pamphlets to non-hookers will provide some painfully awkward moments for said driver just trying to do his job and avoid a staggering $10,000 fine.

Queens Councilman Dan Halloran criticized the bill as a waste of public funds, “Here we’re going to spend $2 million dollars and educate cabbies to be social workers and informants for the police department.  What are we thinking?  How about keeping our after-school programs open?  Two-million dollars goes a long way to do that.  How about not closing the 20 firehouses the mayor is slating to close so the public is safe?”

S.C. mother battling flesh-eating bacteria ‘slightly improved’ – CNN.com

New mom, Lana Kuykendall, is battling flesh-eating bacteria.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

Lana Kuykendall has had 11 surgeries since being diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis.

While in critical condition, she hasn’t had amputations and the disease is all in her leg.

“Lana’s vitals and blood work is good,” her husband says, according to the hospital.

The father of a Georgia woman with the disease notes milestones in her own fight.

(CNN) — The health of a South Carolina woman battling a rare flesh-eating bacteria has “slightly improved,” a spokeswoman for a Greenville hospital said Thursday, though the new mother remains sedated and in critical condition.

Lana Kuykendall has “undergone 11 debridement surgeries to remove tissue since being admitted May 11” to Greenville Memorial Hospital, spokeswoman Sandra Dees said Thursday by e-mail.

But unlike 24-year-old Aimee Copeland of Georgia — who has lost a leg, part of her abdomen, her remaining foot and her hands as she fights the same disease, according to online updates from her father, Andy Copeland — no parts of Kuykendall’s body have been amputated.

“Last night, Darren told the family in his update that ‘Lana’s vitals and blood work is good.’ This is a good day for her, and we will take it,” said Brian Swaffer, Kuykendall’s brother, in a message relayed by the hospital.

Kuykendall gave birth to twins, Ian and Abigail, on May 7 in Atlanta.

At that time, Kuykendall, a paramedic, was believed to be healthy. But a few days later, she went to hospital near her South Carolina home after noticing a rapidly expanding bruise on her leg, her husband Darren, a firefighter, told CNN last week.

She was diagnosed then with necrotizing fasciitis and has been incubated and sedated every day since, according to her brother and the hospital.

A number of bacteria, which are common in the environment but rarely cause serious infections, can lead to the disease. When it gets into the bloodstream -such as through a cut – doctors typically move aggressively to excise even healthy tissue near the infection site, in hopes of ensuring none of the dangerous bacteria remain.

The disease attacks and destroys healthy tissue and is fatal about 20% of the time, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky convicted of child sex abuse | Fox News

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky faces life in prison following his conviction late Friday of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years.

Sandusky, 65, was led from the courtroom in handcuffs after being found guilty of 45 of 48 counts. Sentencing will be in about three months, but mandatory minimums will keep him behind bars for life.

Sandusky, a retired defensive coach who was once Paterno’s heir apparent, showed little emotion as the verdict was read.

There were only three acquittals among the charges related to 10 victims, eight of whom took the stand to describe fondling, forced oral sex and anal rape. Many of the accusers testified that they had told no one of the abuse that dated as far back as the mid-1990s — not parents, not girlfriends and not police.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly spoke immediately after the verdict, praising the victims for the courage to testify. She said she hopes the verdict “helps these victims heal and helps other victims of abuse to come forward.”

Attorneys Justine Andronici and Andrew Shubin, who represent some of the victims of Sandusky’s sexual abuse, including Victim 3 and Victim 7 who testified in the trial, said in a statement their clients are “relieved and grateful” about the verdict.
