Anti-police violence surges in the tough suburbs of Paris

PARIS (AP) — A resurgence of anti-police violence has emerged in the long-troubled towns around Paris, signs that lawlessness still simmers in French urban hotspots that exploded in three weeks of rioting in 2005.

Violence on Saturday night in Chanteloup-les-Vignes and recent flare-ups in other tough neighborhoods west of Paris have not matched the intensity or destructiveness of the unrest that spread to hundreds of towns in 2005. But French authorities are alarmed because the violence appears pre-planned, with ambushes deliberately set to target police.

Police union officials suspect that rival gangs from different tough neighborhoods are competing for bragging rights in their attacks and are reveling in the media coverage they’re generating, even egging each other on in social media.

Hackers Can Access iPhone Via Text

Google  Project Zero researcher Natalie Silvanovich has said that hackers can access an iPhone via iMessanger through an interaction-less bug in the text.

“These can be turned into the sort of bugs that will execute code and be able to eventually be used for weaponized things like accessing your data,” said Silvanovich at a security conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to a report by Wired.

Silvanovich became interested in researching interaction-less bugs when studying a similar vulnerability in What’s App.

Pastor of Chinese Megachurch Imprisoned for Faith has More Charges Added

The continued clamp down on faith groups in China has seen the imprisonment of Pastor Wang Yi. He was arrested 7 months ago with his wife and around 100 members of his congregation. Pastor Wang Yi has now had more charges added, to the original charge of “inciting subversion”. His supporters believe this is because it is difficult to prove a charge of “inciting subversion”. The new charges include “illegal business activities”.

Most of the 100 members have already been released, along with Pastor Wang Yi’s wife. However, members of the church are under close surveillance from authorities.

Before his arrest Pastor Wang had released a letter denouncing the communist parties recent activities:

“I believe that this Communist regime’s persecution against the church is a greatly wicked, unlawful action. As a pastor of a Christian church, I must denounce this wickedness openly and severely,” the pastor wrote.

“The calling that I have received requires me to use non-violent methods to disobey those human laws that disobey the Bible and God. My Savior Christ also requires me to joyfully bear all costs for disobeying wicked laws.”

The Chinese government only allows protestant churches within its state approved Three-Self Patriotic Movement, which censors what can be preached. However recent years has seen new restrictions and clamp downs on both State approved and illegal churches.

China ranks 27 in the Open Doors World Watch List of persecuted countries.

Chinese buyers are pulling out of New York real estate in droves

China’s capital controls are making their mark on New York’s luxury real estate market.

In an effort to shore up its currency, the world’s second biggest economy has been cracking down on money leaving the country, and there are significant concerns (paywall) about its real estate developers’ levels of US dollar debt.

Having briefly been the main movers and shakers in New York real estate, Chinese developers have fallen behind the Canadians, the Germans and the Dutch. As trade war tensions increase and having money in the United States becomes less desirable, many of those developers have decided to service their debts by offloading massive New York properties, according to the Financial Times (paywall).

Mastercard No Longer Requires Legal Name in Support of Trans Customers

Mastercard have announced that it will allow customers to use a name other than their legal name. The move is to enable trans or binary people to use their “true name” and not their “dead name”.

MasterCard failed to respond to questions about whether this could be used by people to fraudulently change their name for illegal purposes.

The Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking for Washington DC’s government, which implements anti-fraud programs, said, “Whether this effort leads to increased fraud will, likely, depend on how it is implemented.”

Tennessee Detective Gives Sermon Calling for LGBTQ People to be Executed

Tennessee deceptive Grayson Fritts gave a sermon at All Scripture Baptist Church, where he is also a pastor, in which he said law enforcement and local government should make moves to arrest, convict, and “speedily” execute members of the LGBTQ community. He also said that he did not call on members of the church to act violently towards gay people, but that it was the responsibility of the government to act.

Fritts requested a county buyout offer and is currently on a sick leave from his position in law enforcement, and the matter is being investigated.

Ocasio-Cortez wants to lead the charge for magic mushrooms research

AOC is on a new trip: studying—and potentially legalizing – magic mushrooms and other psychedelic drugs for medicinal use.

“From the opioid crisis to psilocybin’s potential w/ PTSD, it’s well past time we take drug use out of criminal consideration + into medical consideration,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tweeted Saturday. “That begins with research.”

The progressive darling filed legislation Friday to encourage studies of ‘shrooms, ecstasy and other drugs that some believe could treat a range of ailments, from depression to headaches. Psilocybin is often referred to as magic mushrooms.

The measure, an amendment to a spending bill that would fund the Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services, would allow federal funds to be spent on such research.

Last month, Denver became the first city in the country to decriminalize psilocybin. Oakland followed suit last week.

Male Earnings in Decline, A Big Problem for the Economy

Stephan Moore, Federal Reserve Nominee, has said that one of the biggest problems facing the economy is the decline in male earnings.

Moore observes that where female earnings are rising, male earnings- for both black and white males- has been steadily declining. He argues that this is bad for both the economy and society. And that he would like to see earning rise for everyone regardless of gender.

Fox News pulls ‘Judge Jeanine’ show one week after remarks on Rep. Ilhan Omar’s hijab

Pirro has been embroiled in controversy following a segment last week, where she questioned if Omar’s headscarf means the Minnesota congresswoman prioritizes Sharia law above the U.S. Constitution she took an oath to protect and defend.

“Omar wears the hijab, which according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t get molested,” Pirro said during her “Opening Statement” segment on March 10. “Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?”
